Whatever happened to long nails on one hand and short on the other?

I couldn't live with the asymmetry.

Long nails also have their uses...

I'll second [livejournal.com profile] dreamfracture. Aesthetically I prefer a man to have long fingernails but practically speaking its always worth having one hand with the nails short. Sadly as a violinist I have to keep my left hand well trimmed and that's the one I'd be most inclined to grow the nails out on. The retail environment (particularly the goods inwards bit of it) also doesn't favour long nails unless you get off on watching your nails bend back in interesting and unusual ways.

In the scheme of things, I prefer the possibility of painless fingering to the prettiness of long fingernails.

There again, I've been biting my fingernails for the past 22 years or so.

Given that most guys have about 10 fingers across two hands, it's quite possible to have your cake and eat it on this one.

Personally I feel that the aesthetic appeal of long fingernails is lost once you start mixing and matching.

i have rather long fingernails, both for the look and for.. other uses, although it does cause trouble with.. other other uses.. hmm, might be an idea to just keep it with one hand, although then they wouldn't be symmetrical ;p

Yeah, I think the symmetry is required for them to look nice myself.

they only hurt when being fingered if the guy is fingering wrong. ;)

According to you, I finger myself wrongly then. Experience has taught me that I absolutely cannot orgasm from being touched with the pads of the fingers (whether his or mine): only the very tips will work, and so the nails have to be short.

I suppose it varies from girl to girl and their sensitive spots...maybe I have a higher pain tolerance in my cunt? O.o lol, no idea...I don't need the very tips of fingers in order to make me orgasm...to me, its all about the rhythm and movement of the finger and the way the sensitive spot is touched/rubbed etc. O.o

I am stupidly sensitive both inside and out − to give you an idea, simply not using a condom will give me irritation for days similar to that caused by thrush, and the condom has to be polyurethane as well as I am allergic to latex.

I think that the tip of the finger is more curved than the pad, and for me the curviness is critical, as it's more a flicking that results rather than a rubbing.

I envy you that you don't have to kick people out of bed to go cut their nails; it really spoils the mood.

When I scanned the first sentence of this reply I hadn't yet noticed that it wasn't posted by [livejournal.com profile] dennyd. I now have images of him fingering himself...

I agree with those who have said to keep some long and some short. I had a friend who just let his pinky nails grow and kept the rest trimmed. He knew how o make good use of that combo. :)

They're definitely no good for contact juggling :) I tend to break them doing normal juggling too.

No, I just mess around with it a tiny amount, have done for a few years. Something to do with the shiny balls in between throwing them around :) I'm not very good though, I don't have the patience to get smooth at it.

With practice, you can learn to do most things with long fingernails that would usually require short ones. I no longer poke myself in the ey when removing contact lenses, for example.
I voted for long on those grounds, but short nails have their place, too.

I get annoyed if my nails grow too long, but I also get annoyed when I've just cut them as they are so useful when they are a bit longer to open packets, find the end of the sellotape, get that awkward card out of your wallet, etc.

Since my nails seem to be growing at a surprisingly quick rate, most of the time they are what you would probably call medium length.

I keep my nails short in winter and long in summer. Why? Because if they're long in winter, they make holes in the fingertips of my gloves. Gr.

Most things can be done with long fingernails. 'Some' things just have to be done with a little moe carefullnes.

I still voted short fingernails, as I just dont think long fingernails on a guy is pretty. Just enough nails to do the scratching thing, is ok though.

As long as the long nails are smooth (no jaggies) and the owner of them is careful, there's nowt you can do with short nails that you can't do with long. Except perhaps contact juggling. And playing the guitar. And stuff.

Long on the right, short on the left. Or stick to plectrums.

I think that ladies need short nails too though, for practicality and because I don't like having various bits of me scratched.
