I'll be doing some body-flying at Airkix on Friday 28th September, at 9pm. If anybody wants to come along to keep me company, feel free to book yourself some minutes and let me know you'll be there. Would be nice to have someone to travel with and/or share adrenaline-fuelled cheerfulness with afterwards :)

Just got home from flying again. I now have nine of the ten items on the basic flight-skills list ticked off:

[X] 1. Attended, flew in tunnel
[X] 2. Can fly in a basic flying position with little assistance
[X] 3. Can hold a still and controlled body position
[X] 4. Can turn both left and right 360°
[X] 5. Can move forwards and backwards with reasonable control
[X] 6. Can move up and down in the air column
[X] 7. Can move side to side with reasonable control
[X] 8. Can enter and exit the tunnel with minimal assistance from the instructor
[  ] 9. Can follow direction from the instructor and make multiple movements
[X] 10. Can fly to a given number of places in the tunnel in a certain amount of time

The first three are a bit cheap, obviously. And to be honest, I think he was being a bit generous giving me a full tick for item 7 - side-slipping is difficult! Still, I did manage a couple of fairly deliberate attempts, and I think I'll do better next time.

9 and 10 are hard to distinguish from each other with the phrasing used, but it turns out that 9 basically means 'going diagonally' - so up and left at the same time, or down and right, or whatever. Hopefully I should be able to get that one ticked off on my next visit (Tuesday), then um... I dunno. Apparently the next step once your basic flight is stable is to learn to fly on your back - once you get that, you can start learning the really cool flips and other crazy tricks. *slightly manic grin*

I had a very pleasant extended weekend. My friends are great :) I took a number of them out for a meal on Saturday afternoon to celebrate my settlement cheque coming through, and then we went back to [livejournal.com profile] denari's place to party all weekend. It was every bit as good a party as I could have hoped for, and for the greater part of it I pretty much forgot I was sad. Many hugs to all concerned, most particularly to [livejournal.com profile] denari, [livejournal.com profile] flippit, and of course to [livejournal.com profile] libellum.

The latter two of whom decided to wander off on a Sekrit Mission at midday on Sunday, and return with a ballpool for me!! Which they sneakily set up in the spare room before inviting me in to see what they'd been up to. I believe [livejournal.com profile] konekosaru also played a part in sourcing the items, so hugs to her too... it made me very happy indeed :)

Generally speaking this party went a long way towards making up for the fairly downbeat birthday weekend, for which I am more grateful than I can express.

Yesterday I woke up feeling unexpectedly perky, and decided that I was going to make use of some of my recently purchased Airkix minutes. I recruited Helen and Fliss and we headed off to MK to fly. It was very entertaining indeed - I spent five minutes in the air in total, and have started to feel like I have some control over what I'm doing. The instructor we had this time was particularly good, taking a far more hands-off approach than the first time we visited, which meant that we made some more interesting (okay, terrifying*) mistakes, but also learned far more about how to correct ourselves instead of being herded back into line by someone else. I can't wait to go back again, and may well do so this weekend or next week.

Today, Helen has gone back home to work, and I'm trying to get some relaxation done in my last day off before returning to work again. I miss her lots :(

* I managed to accidentally flip onto my back (and therefore plummet towards the floor) from above the height of the glass (three or four meters up, at a guess). Yikes. Still, 'plummet' is a bit of an exaggeration - although you're not exposing enough body surface to fly in that position, you're still somewhat buoyed up by the airflow, and the instructor did manage to grab me and slow me down a bit before I hit the mesh too. No harm done :) Instructor's comment: "If you go high, don't look down, and don't make any radical movements, okay?" :-p

Wheeeee! ?

Dear Denny

Thank you for booking with Airkix.

This email acts as your receipt and confirmation of purchase. We ask that you
read it carefully, checking times (if applicable) and all information detailed.

You are now an Airkix Bronze Super User Account holder.

So... who wants to go flying? :-D

My account level means that I can buy airtime at just over £10 per minute... for my guests as well as for myself. First-time flyers will have to pay an extra £10 for their instruction. Anyone interested? The 'nam posse are organising an excursion on Oct 20th which I intend to be part of, but I might well be persuaded into earlier visits too :) And lots of later visits!

UPDATE: Details for 'Nam Flying Mission

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=4826779276

Saturday October 20th, somewhere between 2pm and 6pm.

Normally people book 2 minutes (usually flown in 2 one-minute slots (it feels a lot longer once you're in there, believe me!)), which will cost you £22 if you've flown before, £32 if you haven't (includes £1 PayPal fees). If you'd like to book a longer timeslot, talk to me and it should be possible, depending on how many people we get and how booked-up Airkix is.

You will need to PayPal (or otherwise hand over) the money to me before September 15th if you want to come with our group, as we need to book well in advance. No payment, no booking! Please contact me ASAP if you want to come :)

Please bear in mind that Airkix is in Milton Keynes and you will need to find your way there. I'll probably be heading down on the train, it's fairly simple and quick and people are welcome to tag along with me.

http://www.partiallyclips.com/index.php?id=1498 amused me.

Life is going pretty damn well at the minute. In no particular order, lately I have:

* Flown (or indoor skydived, whichever name you prefer - I intend to go back a LOT once I get my settlement money).
* Fallen in love (rather suddenly and unexpectedly, and all the sweeter for it).
* Had a strangely affirming sort-of reprimand at work ("I need you to stop being apathetic; you're second in command of the whole company and I need your help." "Ah. Right.").
* Had lots of fantastic kinky sex. My girlfriend is made of win and yum.
* Had my annual check-up at the GUM clinic, all tests clear. Always nice.
* Failed to find a flat, despite looking at dozens of them. I'm not in a hurry particularly, but it would be nice to have somewhere of my own. Preferably somewhere of a reasonable size - I want to host some after-parties.
* Spent lots of time with my friends. They are lovely, lovely people, and I want to spend even more lots of time with them. Damn this working for a living nonsense, it interferes badly with what could otherwise be really monumentally spectacular social lives.
* Done quite a bit of spinning, mostly staff. Notably, four hours at Trance on the Thames - a free outdoor dance party on the Thames Beach (only appears at low tide, under Festival Pier on the south bank) - which was loads of fun.

Coming up there are more exciting things... at the end of this week, Helen and Kristen will be doing a live painting event at Planet Angel, which is cool. At the end of this month, they will be having their first exhibition, at The Foundry, which is even cooler. You should all come, to both but particularly to the exhibition - preferably to the opening night, on the 22nd :) [details]

I also have a certain amount of stress sources. Work is difficult to get a handle on at present, hence the previously referenced apathy. The new love, while sweet and wonderful, has not been the simplest of emotional entanglements, and continues to be tricky in places. My leg regularly hurts much more than usual for no apparant reason, and the promised settlement money hasn't even begun the process of turning up - the other side's insurance company are clearly going to wait until they're legally 100% obliged and compelled to hand over the cash (and quite possibly threatened with bailiffs) before they actually do so. Bastards.

Still, the good things (especially that new love, and my glorious girlfriend and friends) are outweighing the bad by a margin I couldn't begin to estimate. It's good being me.

Which is nice.
