I guess that PETA must be full of people who delight in the blood of suffering animals - you can see how they would attract such people.

Or, maybe there's some other reason they do it, and this site is by people who think that PETA isn't extreme enough in its defence of "animal rights".

I think the stats are possibly being heavily bent in the near vicinity of the phrase 'not including spayed/neutered animals'. If PETA's policy is to spay/neuter before re-homing (which is fairly normal as far as I'm aware, over here anyway), then the anti-PETA site could be throwing away pretty much all of the relevant data.

I thought I recognized these folks, so I zipped over to Sourcewatch (http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Center_for_Consumer_Freedom) (run by the Center for Media and Democracy) for the skinny:

The Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) (formerly called the "Guest Choice Network") is a front group for the restaurant, alcohol and tobacco industries. It runs media campaigns which oppose the efforts of scientists, doctors, health advocates, environmentalists and groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving, calling them "the Nanny Culture -- the growing fraternity of food cops, health care enforcers, anti-meat activists, and meddling bureaucrats who 'know what's best for you.' "

Over 40 percent of the group's 2005 expenditure was paid to Rick Berman's PR company, Berman & Co. for "management services. [1] As part of its operations CCF runs a series of attack websites, including "consumerfreedom.com, activistcash.com, cspiscam.com, animal-scam.com, fishscam.com, obesitymyths.com, physiciansscam.com [and] petalkillsanimals.com".[2]

Oh, and they were founded with a large donation from Philip Morris Tobacco.

(Libertarians I could probably find some shred of sympathy for, but this stuff is just plain evil -- a corporate black propaganda campaign directed against a non-profit organization.)
