Everyday life is "tawdry and inadequate"

Helping with an essay this evening and ran across this fine quote:

"The advertising industry has implanted images of such impossible perfection that the things we encounter in our everyday lives seem now tawdry and inadequate."

Something about describing life as 'tawdry and inadequate' amuses me greatly. Maybe I need to get out more. :)
