I need to return a large flatpack unit to Ikea in Edmonton (North London) and exchange it for one that's the right colour. It cost me 50 quid to buy the unit, so hiring a 50 quid van to return it is really going to piss me off. Does anyone have a van, people carrier, estate with a roofrack, something that could get a 2.5m long and very heavy bit of flatpacked furniture to North London? If so, please please please would you do me a huge favour and help me sort this bloody thing out? I need to return it by the end of this month or else I'm out of luck.

I am of course more than happy to cover petrol money, and buy you a drink/meal/something.

If It's IKEA's fault, surely they should send out a delivery lorry with the correct colour furniture on and pick up the incorrect one..?

A taxi won't let me 'sort of fit' it in, and anything it will properly fit in will charge me as much as the van hire would cost.

Is that a London thing? I find I can request people carriers/estates at no extra cost from minicab companies around here.

Actually most of the private hire cars I've had lately have been people carriers now that you mention it, I'm not sure this thing would fit in them though - 2.5m is really quite long as luggage goes.

I think the distances involved might be 'a London thing'... it's a 15 mile around trip, give or take a bit.

I'm guessing any "man with a van" from the an ad is going to be similarly expensive?

London 'man with a van' adverts seem to run around £25ph, often specifying minimum 2h hire as well. I guess they're trading on people in London being more likely to need a driver than people in MK would be (istr the usual cost there was around 10ph).

When are you wanting to move it? I'm in London with van this weekend and might be available on Sunday afternoon, assuming I wake up before it's time to get to rehearsal. ;-) I need to be in Bethnal Green for 6. I'm a wuss when it comes to driving in the Big Smoke, but if you can guide me I can do it. I'll be starting from Temple Fortune.

I'm very close to Bethnal Green, so you'd be ending up near the right place. It's nearly an hour each way to Ikea and back though, so I guess you'd need to be getting to me around 3pm to leave some wiggle room.

If I've got the right 'Temple Fortune' (NW11?), then it looks like that's about half an hour away from me (not counting traffic) along a fairly simple route (Google Map (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=1039+Finchley+Rd,+London,+NW11+7ES+(Temple+Fortune)&daddr=N1+6LE)).

I will be in a slightly pitiful state on Sunday afternoon, as I'm clubbing Friday and Saturday nights, but I really do need to get this done. If you're up for it then I'd be very grateful, thank you.

Yeah, that's the one. :-) I should be able to make it to you by 3pm (assuming I'm not too dead too!) I'm sure I'll see you on Saturday night, but can you ask Helen to text me your number anyway just in case?

Denny,

This can be moved with my car no problems. I am due to get it back from the garage next week. (Some Ahole nickedthe lights off the front of it) If your van falls thru I can help you out. I drive to work and finish at 3 in docklands so can always wander over to yours or wait til later as they are open til midnight.

Let me know either way and I'll sort something with you.
