I've just imported all my old content from LJ. There may be some duplicates from before I started using the cross-poster, but I think I've tidied it all up. I'll set all my LJ entries to private at some point, probably at the same time that I stop cross-posting.

I've also started unfriending people on LJ if they have an account here. If I've unfriended you on LJ but not subscribed to you nor given you access here, please let me know.

hey, you mind telling me a bit about importing? did it take ages, can you pick and choose posts or d'you do the whole thing (is it easier that way)? etc

Sorry, thought I'd replied to this. It doesn't take long at all - you set it off and then it reports back when it's finished, which for me was about an hour. I imported all my posts, which I think was the only option as far as that's concerned, but you can choose to import/not import your friends list, icons, comments, tags, and some other odds and ends. I took the lot, then removed the openid friends after it had finished.

Interesting. I might import both my blogs - I'd have to remove a couple of cross-posts and check the securityness of the more private ones, but it could be fascinating to have them lined up like that.

I've got an account on here, but for the moment only public posts are being crossposted - most other content is staying on LJ.

Any particular reason for doing it that way around? Do you post to custom filters a lot?

Fairly often. And many of my f-list who actually read my posts aren't on DW, and aren't planning to migrate here in anything like the near future. Also, in a stunningly lazy reason, I've not got around to copying over my vast slew of topical userpics yet. [grin]

As time goes by I'll probably migrate more and more of my stuff to DW, but for now, LJ is easier. That, and there's my somewhat crippling poll-addiction. [grin]

Fair enough. I guess polls are a paid feature? Didn't pay much attention as I knew I was going to sign up.

You could easily do the userpics right now by the way, the DW importer has a 'just fetch my userpics' tickybox (among* its many options). Although if you don't have a paid account, I think your userpic space is very limited here on DW anyway.

I hadn't got a paid account, although now I have. [grin] It's more the fact that the readers who respond to polls are mostly still on LJ, too.

I have to admit that I'd not actually paid much attention to the DW importer yet, as I wasn't sure whether I'd actually copy the content across - and I'm still somewhat undecided. But a bulk copy of my userpics does sound like a handy feature. Thanks for flagging that!

Of course, one annoying thing is the difficulty of referring to people by their LJ-name on DW ... [grin] ... especially when they don't have a DW account. I might have to raise that. Might be feasible with a custom tag, which then references LJ rather than DW - but it does also mean that crossposting when you often refer to other people can be problematic.

I have to admit I've got used to using the old <lj-user=""> format, but if that one works in crossposting to LJ, that's a definite win. Thanks for yet another pointer!
