If anyone reading this is considering getting a Smile account, they're currently running a promotional campaign whereby if I refer you and you do get an account (and put £1500 in it), then we get 24 bottles of wine between us. Let me know if you want a copy of the referral email.

Any small print about how long you need to keep the money there or the account open?

Not really... they don't guarantee to despatch the wine in less than 8 weeks from the account being approved though.

That said, I wouldn't recommend opening and closing current accounts just to get some free booze - it'll look dodgy on your credit record.

Well, I'll look at the small print on the account, min. balance, benefits, etc, (I've seen their interest rate isn't anything to write home about), and let you know.

Putting that money aside for a bit and getting enough wine to probably last me a year (last of the big drinkers, hey?) is a reasonable incentive, and I don't have to close the account necessarily, like I have kept a number of credit cards that I don't normally use, but that's where I need to look at the minimum balance/deposits...

Oh, and in case I go for it, if you could send me the referral email, ta. :-)

Well, I'm assuming most people would pay their wages into a new current account.

Yes, but that firmly implies "get account and use it" rather than "get account and get drunk".
The later is definitely the only one that makes all the filling out forms and dealing with bankers worthwhile

This wouldn't work with me being an existing sustomer of theirs & opening a new savings account, would it?

A (only just returning to lj after quite some time... hope you're doing ok)

I was going to say, say what? I didn't get that email? Until I realised I have a student account :) no way any of my friends would put that much money in! However, they did send me a crate of wine a few months after I first joined, presumably because I told them I came from a different bank.
