The petition is for people who'd like to keep them going, before any opera haters get over-excited and sign it. ;)

Personally I'm not that keen on the classical buskers (this is very specifically about the orchestral instruments and opera singers in the courtyard area, rather than any of the other street performance in the Covent Garden area), but they're part of the tradition and atmosphere of Covent Garden and I think it'd be a bloody stupid idea to cut their performances back as drastically as is being suggested. Also, if they're going to start cutting the 'respectable' performers, I dread to think what they have in mind for the lunatics juggling chainsaws etc.

I've signed the petition, and if you like Covent Garden for the very reason that it's not just another bland and soulless shopping centre, then I suggest you sign it too.

I saw a fantastic group there once - classical music with masses of humour in the presentation. It possibly helped that a couple of them were rather hot also ;)

Wish I could remember what they were called, I'd pay to see 'em again.

I'm not generally convinced online petitions are worth the paper they're written on, but I'll sign it in lieu of knowing what else to do.

signed, although I got unreasonably prickly about the petition being open to "Everyone who loves live music". What about people who hate music but approve of public spaces?

That said, I was just reading the details of this Facebook event:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=9590099508

And I find that the lyrics for Never Gonna Give You Up include this line:
"We know the game and we're gonna play it"

Coincidence? You decide! :-p
