Rebooted my desktop two hours ago in the process of trying to get the wireless working here, and found that something I'd 'upgraded' over the last month or two (a kernel package at a guess) had actually completely hosed X (thank you nVidia and your accursed non-open-source drivers). Spent the last two hours trying to get it working again. Sometimes I can see the appeal of Windows... at least until I try to use it to do, well, anything.

[livejournal.com profile] libellum's laptop saw my wireless network once, when she first scanned for networks, but is now refusing to recognise its existence since she connected to the neighbour's unsecured wireless. Does Windows have some kind of 'forget about the networks you didn't use last time' default behaviour? I can't figure out why it was there and now it's not. We've performed the usual reboot dances and so on, and still no sign of the network that was briefly available a few hours ago. *head-desk, head-desk, head-desk*

Anyway, it's looking like the wireless isn't going to work, and it turns out I don't have the requisite amount of network cards to go the cabled route, so there's a medium to high chance that my online activities will be, well, offline, for at least a day or two, possibly a week or two (for those not keeping track, I go into surgery in about 12 hours, so getting out of bed may not be my strong point for a while).

On the bright side, I spent 70 quid on books today, so at least I won't be bored. See y'all on the flip side.

Good luck with the surgery. I doubt it's much but if there's anything I can do to help, Libellum has my number.
