No, not a banana phone revival :) Just a warning that the vibrate feature on my mobile seems to have stopped working. Combined with the fact that I got an iRiver for Xmas (and am using it enthusiastically whenever I leave the house), this means I'm likely to miss quite a lot of calls. Please don't feel unloved if I don't answer the phone to you! I always call people back when I notice missed calls, time and circumstances permitting.

I was already planning on upgrading my phone soon anyway (probably to a Nokia 6630, if anyone is interested and/or has advice to offer), so hopefully this won't be a problem for too long.

Well, I have a 6600, and the 6630 is a super-duper version of that. [livejournal.com profile] midnight_echo has a 7610 en route, which seems to be very similar to the 6630, apart from the 7610 having a funky keypad and the 6630 being 3G enabled.

So, you being a bigger geek than fashion guru, I'd go for the 6630. Oh, and it's SHINY!

Whoever designed the 7610 keyboard needs to die painfully. Wtf were they thinking??

I've seen a very similar phone to the 7610 (exactly the same overall shape) but with a normal shaped keypad on it, which is their 'business' version of the same thing - that's either just been released, or is just about to be. Doesn't have the mp3 player built-in though :)

I think I will probably get the 6630 unless it's really expensive to upgrade to, in which case I might get the 6600 myself.

I have my reservations about the keyboard too. When it arrives, I'll let you know if it's as annoying as it looks!
Looking at the spec for the 6630, I'd imagine it would be expensive, and it hasn't been out all that long.

As for MP3 players, it's easy enough to get freeware players installed. Obviously you only get a mono sound due to the peripherals available. After that, your only consideration is memory, and you can squeeze little on the paltry 32MB card supplied with the handset, although you can obviously upgrade. I read somewhere that you can get N-Gage game cards (DTS-128) to work in the same way as the as the standard supplied card, once formatted. These cards, sold as DTS-128 go for around £50-£60, but I've seen people selling "N-Gage Games" for £10-£20, not realising that they're the same hardware!

Having been given an iRiver for xmas, mp3 playback isn't on my desired feature list for a phone any more anyway :) Interesting about the cards though, that's worth knowing.
