Just opened my post and found a nice surprise - another cheque from my lawyers, the other side have forwarded £3000 as a second interim payment. Still nothing settled in the way of liability, but even if I'd taken their previous offer, they know they'd owe me more than this, so they've obviously decided to start chipping up now to make them look better in court (if it comes to that).

That lowers the stress level for this month by a significant fraction. I think I'll just pop into town and pay this straight into the bank.

December contains no employment opportunities. I've been unemployed before Xmas before, there's hardly any point looking until everyone's recovered from their NYE hangovers.

Not that I've stopped looking, but there's really nothing about.

*nods* I know, it's a shitty time.

Have you looked at http://www.reed.co.uk ?
Reed's not a specialist IT agency really, but they do do some IT jobs, particularly web design/development stuff, and they're pretty hot on jobs in London/South.

Oh, and if you register with/get placed by Reed, do tell them it was on my recommendation? I get beer tokens for it!
Obviously, I wouldn't direct you to a shit agency just to get the dosh, though; they really are rather useful and have pretty good benefits packages (cheap/free mobile phones, tax breaks for travelling by public transport, etc).

Their website won't let me register, it wants me to install something called a Personal Information Manager (?), but I've left some potentially interesting browser tabs open to ring them about when I get up tomorrow. I've added this comment to the collection of tabs, so that I remember to mention your name when I call them :)

Hmm, I don't remember it asking me to install anything.
Registering with the website isn't really the same thing as registering with the agency anyway - they'll usually want to see you in person and get P45, bank details, references, CV etc so they can start looking for stuff on your behalf. Since they're not IT specialists, it might be better to stick with just the website until something comes up that you want, then quickly sign up with the agency office in question.

Are you quite sure? My phone's been running hot with pimps over the past few weeks, and I just put my CV up on the job sites to see what bites it would get.
