So there's this guy...
Oct. 7th, 2008 10:18 pm...I don't know him, I just read his LJ. Originally I started reading it (after following a comment on a friend's journal) because he was really fucking funny, if somewhat deliberately obnoxious on occasion (these two may be related). Anyway, he can write observational humour, he's bloody good at it in fact, and I enjoyed reading it.
Then, at the end of last year, he started posting some more personal stuff. Turns out his mum had cancer, and after a period of remission it was back to fuck with her some more. Take a man who can write, and give him something he cares about to write about... well, it's been pretty involving. Astonishingly so, considering I don't know the people involved, wouldn't recognise them if we sat next to each other on a train. I cried when she died last month. (Or rather, when I read his post saying goodbye to her.)
So now, in a sadly almost predictable bit of human psychology at work, parts of his remaining family are being complete and utter wankers. You can read about it in his girlfriend's journal here if you like. It boils down to them being tightwads about the funeral expenses, which is hardly necessary given the sums of money involved.
So, long story short... if you're feeling a bit better off than the average lately, and fancy doing your good deed for the day, maybe you could consider chipping him a couple of quid - it might give him some headspace to deal with the loss of his mum, instead of having to argue about complete bollocks with his uncles.
There's a post here with his PayPal address in it.
