When I got home from London today there was a feather laying on my driveway. I'd forgotten how much birds fascinate me until I found it... I had to pick it up and bring it indoors, it didn't even occur to me to just leave it there. It's sitting next to the monitor on my computer desk now.
It's been years since I actually had time to read about ornithology, so I've no idea what it's from - probably a blackbird or something equally common. It's 9.5 inches long, black with a metallic green sheen on the top surface and just dull black/dark grey on the underside. I might look it up at some point, if I remember, but it doesn't seem particularly important right now.
However, finding it felt extremely significant. Still does in fact... but I have no idea why, or how. Odd.
