When I got home from London today there was a feather laying on my driveway. I'd forgotten how much birds fascinate me until I found it... I had to pick it up and bring it indoors, it didn't even occur to me to just leave it there. It's sitting next to the monitor on my computer desk now.

It's been years since I actually had time to read about ornithology, so I've no idea what it's from - probably a blackbird or something equally common. It's 9.5 inches long, black with a metallic green sheen on the top surface and just dull black/dark grey on the underside. I might look it up at some point, if I remember, but it doesn't seem particularly important right now.

However, finding it felt extremely significant. Still does in fact... but I have no idea why, or how. Odd.

~smile~ There's something about feathers. I understand completely, even though I couldn't possibly tell you why it's significant.

I love you.

91/2 inches? That ain't no blackbird - more likely a flight feather from a crow.

with a blue-green sheen? Possibly a magpie, actually.

I've seen shiny crows! Possibly not as shiny as magpies though.
I suppose he can't really find out by putting out an ad to see if it comes back to claim it as lost property...

Crows tend to be metallic blue shiny though rather than metallic green shiny.

If I recall the song correctly, that figures.

**cue the girl with a feather fetish**

Hmmm...sounds like it's from a magpie...it's mating and nest building season atm, so there's often more magpie feathers on the ground at this time of year than can be found at any other.

**starts to sound like Bill Oddie...so does one smartish**
