Whitby Woes

duranorak on Saturday, but we could have had a nice time in London or MK so that hardly counts as a reason to come to Whitby. The rest of it has been without exception lonely and miserable, and I can't wait to leave, except for the fact that there's not much to look forward to there either.
You can tell I'm having a good time, can't you?
The bands on Friday and Saturday were universally shite, with the vague exception of one bunch of Slipknot clones on Friday who were technically okay, but very formulaic and not particularly popular with the goth crowd, so they didn't get any kind of atmosphere going. The DJ on Friday played a couple of almost dancy tracks that got the dancefloor going, then proceeded to play shit for the rest of the night. The DJ on Saturday didn't bother with the dancy tracks and just got straight into the shit. I think it's safe to say that I'm notagoth, at least not musically, on the basis of this excursion.
Oh, the 80s night was shit too. The venue was way too hot, and there was too much cigarette smoke for me to breathe comfortably half the time. The music varied between excusable and a few brief moments of 'woo-hoo', so at least that was an improvement on Fri/Sat. I was in a foul mood however, so left early.
I didn't really get to see the market stalls on Friday, as I was too busy trying to sort out car stuff. I think they were largely the same on Saturday though, and I'd say there was nothing there you couldn't have found in Camden, and a lot of stuff looked to be pricier here than there. Also, Camden is less crowded and has a KFC and a McDonalds within easy walking distance.
My car, incidentally, is fucked. The reason the radiator had cracked is that the head gasket has blown. So I've now paid out £100 to get a new radiator fitted, only to discover that the car will cost another £300+ to fix, which is more than I paid for it. Cost of driving to Whitby this weekend? £350, plus whatever the car was worth before it blew up. £125 to get through MoT last week, £50 on petrol, £100 on a new radiator, and £75 to join the RAC. My plan at this stage is to collect the car tomorrow from the garage where it was half-fixed, drive it as far as I can (until it blows up again), then call the RAC. So I'm really looking forward to the drive home, as you might imagine.
At this point I'm not sure whether I'll bother coming in November (I have a deposit down on a ticket), or sell my ticket on to someone who might enjoy it. If I do come, I'm doing it on my own, on my bike - there are too many hills in this town and I'm fed up with walking around it. If I'm going to spend a weekend on my own, I might as well have decent one-man transport while I'm doing it!
Now, I'm going to go and play with my poi, or practice my contact juggling. One of only two highlights of this weekend is that I've had plenty of time bored and alone to practice playing with my toys. The other other highlight was that I gaveduranorak a collar on Saturday. Which was nice.
Still, as I said at the start, I could have done that in London. As far as Whitby is concerned, I really wish I hadn't bothered coming.
