Had a really really nice Mythmas this year. Managed to get the new flat into some sort of order to make room for Helen's parents, brother and sister-in-law to stay - this involved ripping out enough built-in (or at least, bolted to the wall very securely) cupboarding to fit an entire football team's stuff into. I'm not sure why the old couple that used to live here needed that many cupboards... maybe the guy was a tranny with more shoes than my ex-girlfriends, or maybe they'd just never thrown anything away. Ever.

Anyway, removing them turned a medium-small bedroom into a fairly large one, thereby making room to fit both my king-size bed and the shockingly large pile of Stuff In Boxes And Bags which I have yet to even consider attempting to unpack. In my defense, it'll be handy to have it all in fairly portable packed condition in a few weeks when I hopefully will have builders, electricians and decorators wandering around the place ripping it to pieces and putting it back together in better condition.

The builders weren't on the list originally, but in the process of opening up the bedroom, I discovered that I have a teensy bit of a damp problem. As in, water literally running down the walls in places. Looks like the council didn't really bother finishing off the outside of the building :-\ Hopefully I can persuade them to fix the places the water is coming in, but I'll very probably have to deal with the existing internal damage myself. At least I found out before I started decorating, I suppose.

Anyway, I digress. For Mythmas this year my household consisted of myself, Helen, Chris, Elise, and as mentioned above, all of Helen's immediate family. It was a perfect group to spend the season with, a really good family feel to things. We ate ridiculous amounts of food (we have an entire duck left over - or as I pointed out to Elise earlier, 'waiting its turn'). Also a chocolate log, although that might not survive spending this evening in my company :) We played board games, with varying degrees of competence depending on tiredness and alcohol consumption. We also distributed and opened an impressive pile of loot, which was fun. To name a couple of the highlights in my pile, I have fake snowballs (messy but fun), a tidy sum of book-tokens (legalised shoplifting, yay!!), and a bag full of sweets from Cybercandy - all Japanese writing and E numbers :)

Unfortunately Helen had already been given her main present a few days early, as we were going to a club on Friday 21st that was ideal for hooping and juggling etc. However, I think she was pleased with her pretty shoes and amused by her phases of the moon shiny thing. She was probably less amused to find that I'd wrapped and added to her pile of presents two of the chipmunks from the pile of chintz this flat contained when I moved in, but she took it in good grace. Although she did leave them on my fireplace when she went home today :)

So, I'm all alone in the flat now, which feels odd after having between six and nine people here for the last few days. I've done the hoovering, and looked in fear at the pile of washing up and decided I'm not up to it yet. I'm now going to take some leftover goose and chocolate log and go read one of my new books in my bedroom.

Hope you all had a nice few days too...
