Moving on from LJ

It is extremely likely that as soon as this site launches fully to the public, I will move from LJ to there. I encourage everyone who reads my journal to have a look at the code and functionality changes these people are proposing, and the way they talk about their goals, and consider doing likewise when the time comes.

(I'll also be volunteering for the closed beta, but obviously they may not choose to accept everyone who volunteers)

Thanks for the link - I hadn't seen it. I'm considering moving myself, despite having bought a permanent LJ account. I'll certainly be watching with interest.

Are they going to try to solve the distributed-friends-list-with-locked-entries problem? "Better integration of OpenID and RSS syndication, so you can interact with your friends on other sites more easily." might involve this, but they don't say it.

i.e. are they asking us to migrate from ICQ to MSN, or from ICQ to Jabber?

I would imagine they're going to take a swing at it (wouldn't you, if you were forking LJ?), but I have no idea how successful they'll be.

PS: ICQ is still more stable than MSN, although its spam problem does make it almost as annoying these days.

will probably be lazy and wait for you to have used it for a bit and hear what you think of it tbh... but agreed, LJ not what it was... partly due (i assume) to the advent of Facedesk and Twitter...
