Apparently a couple of people have already posted this (I saw it in [livejournal.com profile] cavalorn's journal), but it's worth re-posting.

Oh yes: not striking, as you can see. The censorship issue was fixed swiftly enough that I think the point has already been made, even if they were disingenious about fixing it, and I have no problem with the move from 'basic' accounts to 'plus' accounts as the entry point for LJ - if you're not paying for the service, then you can tolerate some ads (or install an adblocker).

fuck, that is very, very impressive.

Did you feel sorry for it when they kicked it?

No - my family has owned some dogs which would have considered that kind of thing light-hearted rough-housing (note that they shove it, rather than just kicking it). That said, as someone in Cav's journal points out, that first recovery is the point at which it becomes "disturbingly organic".

My jaw actually dropped at the bit on the ice.

The move from basic to plus wasn't the sole reason for the strike. It was, on the other hand, a fundamental LJ stance that got thrown away. Even the "plus" accounts annoyed people when advertising was begun on LJ.

The masses were more pissed off about 2 things:
1) not being informed of the fundamental change (they mentioned straightening up the pages of LJ, but didn't mention the removal of (ad)free accounts.
2) when confronted, people were insulted by the "reasons" for the removal (including, 3 choices was too hard for new users, 2 is more "streamlined"). Among other piles of horse shit. When I read it, I felt somewhat insulted, and that I was being directly lied to.

I've been perm for so long, I don't remember having to view ads (plus my adblockers work).. But, considering I've been using LJ forever, and used to feel like it was a community thing, I was sad. Ads would have stopped me from joining in the first place, and I don't like paying for something without trying it out.

I don't know if it was the buzzing or the shape of the legs, but to me it looked more like a big fly. eugh.
