30% is normal for ladies, but last time I looked dennyd wasn't one of those :-) See eg scale here (http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/body_weight/body_fat/percentage.htm), although I'd take both that scale (which was just the first hit out of Google) and the results of the machine in Boots with a pinch of salt, or other more healthy stuff of your choice. The gym should be able to do a more precise measurement?
