My only surprise is that this is considered news. I thought it was quite well known that high intakes of phosphoric acid damaged bone structure by leeching calcium from the bones.

It damages teeth too; my orthodontist banned me from drinking cola to stop the bits of my teeth that the brace wasn't glued to from being dissolved away. I didn't mind because I don't like fizzy drinks anyway.

it seems odd that other sources of phosphoric acid don't seem to have the same effect, and that it doesn't happen to men.

I'm gonna wait to see what follow up research says. (but I suppose I ought to cut my phenominal cola intake, I'd just been eating extra calcium to compensate, but it seems from the research that that doesn;t help :( )
