...pulling bits of bone out of my leg.

I kept wondering what that hard bit was about halfway down the front scar, but figured it was just a weird spot of scab or something. Idly poking and picking it today (as you do), I suddenly unseated it, and it turns out to be a small splinter of bone.

Cool.

Unfortunately, my desire to see it in more detail led to me making a highly quoteable statement that duranorak is even now typing into her journal, in the other room... enjoy  :)

I imagine the splinter (being more or less a foreign body now) would have kept being pushed to the surface and breaking the skin until I hooked it out, so in this case I probably did the right thing... but generally speaking the temptation to poke and prod the whole lot is really quite hard to resist, although I am trying. Mostly.

By the way, I keep meaning to mention, that's an incredibly nice picture of you.

Oh! Oh! I have access to a microscope, and it has a digital camera on it. Whether they will let me put a bit of bone under it remains to be seen, I would need to ask the technician and might not get it done until the week after next when I have the Thursday off work and will have a chance to catch the Materials department open. Can you freeze it or put it in the fridge in saline solution until then? In the meantime I will find the technician's email address and ask him whether I am allowed.

nothing like that happened when i got trod on by a horse.... i could see my bone until they sewed me up (3 stitches in the muscle, 7 outside) it was fairly interesting :)
