Food, then.
Jan. 7th, 2006 06:34 pmJust got back from shopping... for the entertainment of those following my attempt to revise my eating habits, here is this week's shopping list:
3 litres of orange juice
3 litres of apple+raspberry juice
2 litres of apple+pear juice
1 bag of clementines
1 bag of apples
Half a cucumber
Fresh leek and potato soup.
2 x 500g fresh pasta
2 x cheese sauce
1 x bolognese sauce
1 x tomato and herb sauce with extra garlic
Roule
Double gloucester
Ham from the carvery (yum)
Bacon (going to attempt the microwave thing here - any tips welcomed)
1 loaf of bread
2 pints of milk
8 tins of tuna
12 x hot cross buns
2 x sponge puddings
1 x cherry pie
Conspicuous by their abscence: drinks other than fruit juice, chocolate, ready meals.
Meant to purchase but forgot: mushrooms, to go in the tomato/herb/etc sauce.
Best of all, though not really of any dietary benefit, I found a hair conditioner that smells of apples. Happy now. :)

Date: 2006-01-08 10:20 am (UTC)do you like peppers and corgettes? they go very nicely with tins of tomatoes n herbs (or if you're being posh tins of tomatoes that already have herbs in) to make nice pasta sauce, oh, with onions, obviously....
... and frozen sweetcorn too.
I presume you have a freezer?
Frozen beans/peas/sweetcorn etc are a good way to make sure you don't run out of veg. If you like those things that is.
Eggs are good for essential amino acids too, I seem to recall.

Date: 2006-01-08 12:13 pm (UTC)I was thinking about eggs when I was shopping, but the only way I really like them is fried, and that's too much effort and mess and I can't be bothered with it. I suppose I could try the microwave scrambled version, that might be a good enough taste:effort ratio for me.

Date: 2006-01-08 12:30 pm (UTC)You know that those pasta sauces you've brought almost certainly contain onions?
hmmm scrambled egg on toast with spicy tomato ketchup?
:)
What about omlettes? but I guess even if you did like them there's not much hope if you thing fried egg is too much effort!!!!
Microwaving egg sounds wrong though. Do you not have a hob?

Date: 2006-01-08 12:44 pm (UTC)I've seen someone microwave scrambled eggs before and it worked fine. You just stir them every now and then while they're cooking, it looked easy enough for me to give it a go :)
Omelettes are nice, but again, messy. All fried food is great, but messy. I include the hassle of washing up in my reasons for not cooking anything complicated.

Date: 2006-01-08 05:54 pm (UTC)Although I bought a slimline one ( fitted into crap kitchen better ) I must admit, the bigger size you can get the better, as it's those nasty pans that are always the worst that won't fit into some of the smaller ones, but it will at least reduce the trauma of you " having " to cook.

Date: 2006-01-08 08:51 pm (UTC)One pot cooking is good...
and roasting things is easy/minimal mess sort of cooking too, but maybe the microwave does a reasonable approximation...

Date: 2006-01-09 02:03 pm (UTC)3 eggs, 4 dessert spoons of milk, 1 teaspoon of butter/marg (or for those with a sense of adventure - a splash of milk and a knob of butter *g*)
Whisk together in a largish mrcrowaveproof bowl/jug and microwave for 2 minutes on high power, whisk and repeat until cooked.
The trick is to stir lots and often or it ends up less scrambled and more solid lump at the bottom!
