It's worth bearing in mind that eye-witness reports (including 'officials' as well as the general public) are often glaringly inconsistent and inaccurate after a traumatic incident... our brains do some amazingly weird shit when we're freaked out.

That said, the stuff covered in that article really doesn't sound very good.

I've been sickened by this since I first heard of the incident. Even if he had been a terrorist, it's a hell of a heavy-handed way to deal with matters. The more I hear about this, the worse it sounds.

I do fall on the side of the fence that believes if they had reasonable grounds for suspicion then the action they took was justified - even if their suspicions turned out to be incorrect. They have to weigh up the potential loss of life from a tube bomb against the loss of one life - not a decision I envy them, especially in the heat of the moment.

That said, nervous policeman with guns are a lot more worrying to me personally than terrorists are. Not that I'm dodgy-looking or anything, oh no. Well, okay, I might be :) I've put my black leather trenchcoat away for a while, it doesn't seem like a good thing to wear just now...

Heh. Yeah, there is that too... I really must get the air-con fixed in my car... black car, black leather interior, bit warm in there just now.

Well, maybe you should avoid taking the subways for a while :P If I lived in the UK I know I would be taking a bus or car everywhere, especially now.

I use the tube whenever it's most convenient to do so, although I often drive because I tend to be coming home after the tube stops running.

The odds of me getting either blown up or shot are low enough that I'm not going to factor them into my transport decision-making process. Cost and availability criteria will do just fine.

Very true, just a question, how expensive is gas in your area? Where I live in the US it's currently $2.55/gallon...but I'm not sure if you get it by liters and with....euros? Never been to the UK.

I'm mostly paying 90.9p per litre. UK gallons are a different size to US gallons, so it's best to work out the relative prices in litres then convert at the last step.

Uhm..
My mothers first sentence when she heard I might go to London in december;
"Bring enough money, because you are NOT taking busses or the tube, taxi only for you, you hear me!?"
Then she ordered my father to give "the little one"(me) money to make sure I could afford taxi.

But, I presume taxies are just as expensive in London as here, so I will probably have to take the tube sometime during the stay.
Will I be nervous; probably yes.
But like you say: the odds of anything happening are low.

What worries me is not the fact that the guy wasn't even behaving suspiciously when he was shot. It's the fact that this took so long to come to light.
