A friend of mine runs a sound and lighting company, and is organising a fairly spectacular birthday event on behalf of a friend of his. As part of the night's generally club-like atmosphere, he would like to have two to four podium dancers in attendance. Dancers are expected by be 'a bit raunchy', not 'pole dancer sexy', if you see the difference - it's not a strip club.

Dancers would be expected to be performing for around 15 minutes per hour, gig is likely to run around six hours, maybe eight. There's some money available, around 50 quid per dancer, plus free food and bar (note: don't take the piss - the crew's primary job on the night is not 'drinking the bar dry' :) ).

The party is happening on June 18th, in and around a listed building barn on the grounds of a stately mansion house place... sounds nice :) Music will be mostly club anthems, Pete Tong sort of stuff I think. Oh, I'll be there doing fire-poi (outside) and glow-juggling (inside).

I dunno if anyone knows anyone who's likely to be interested in the dancing work, but if so then please put them in touch with me and I can give them more info.

Feel Free to Friend me, although mainly i rant about how customers try and scrimp on events :) Or big my self up for pulling off massive jobs, so a bit of a boring read, but hopefully equally humorous.

Re Event, would prefer you to " hide " in the crew hospitality tent while guests arrive and durring the party set, Feel free to mingle " as a guest " if you have plain clothes earlier on...( The client has told me it's important to him that the crew have fun as well )

But I would like to keep you guys in the shadows earlier on, so we can make the most impact of your entrance, I'm thinking as we change to the club DJ, have a black out, bring up the UV, we can sneak you in to be at the bottom of the podium stairs in the black out, then we can fire some overhaed expolsives and glitter bombs, bring up the music as you appear on the podiums ? It's just a thought...

I think like the other " acts " ( poi , street magicians ) sets every hour for say 15 mins ? or so, will havew more impact each time you come on than just comming on once...As the night goes on please feel free to hit the regular dance floor any time you want, the later it gets the more relaxed the protocol, but I would like to present at least 2 -3 quality hours of professional show time.
Perhaps I should speak to you by phone, at some point re cued music and so on...
I know it goes without saying but DennyD will testify I had a nasty experience with a household name global act, please feeel free to use the free bar, but I do not tolerate for many reasons including safety, drunk crew.
As the night goes on and the guests filter back to their homes or tents, then we are free to party as much as we like..and I will have no problem with crew drinking.
Again sorry for stating the obvious.
All the " crew " are of good soul, and will treat you with respect and friendliness, If you have any problems on the night they will be only to happy to help.
In exchange for my crew laying off the free bar, I expect them to be treated by every one including guest, with the utmost of respect.
I am no strnger to explaining to guests exactly where they faulter when being disrespectfull to " my crew or acts " as I'm sure Denny will testify.

The option for you to stay over is there, unfortunatly at this time, I can only offer sleeping bag room in the crew marquee or bring a tent if that is your thing. ( I may be able to sort a room in the farm cottage if some of the clients guests cancel.

Food will be served throughout the night free to all crew / acts.

I think that's about all for now..

That all sounds brilliant! I personally don't drink and always ensure that the dancers don't drink more than one or two whilst they are booked to dance as it would look terrible to have drunken dancers (who wouldn't be able to dance if drunk anyway!) - it would be very unprofessional in my opinion not to mention that we would never get booked for anything again!! All we generally require throughout the evening is a supply of bottled water, and some of the girls find that red bull or similar helps when it starts getting late!!

It sounds like a great group and we really look forward to being a part of this event!

If you could pass on your e-mail address, I'll send over the contact details (with phone number) of Michelle, who is the other co-founder of the Sirenz. It would be best for you to speak directly to her as well as myself, as there is a small possibility that I myself may not be able to make this event, as it falls in the 2 week peroid of our moving house (having just bought our first house!!). The event sounds great though, so I really hope that I'll be able to make it too!

When I e-mail you the details, I'll forward the link to this post so she has access to all the information discussed so far.

The only question I still have would be what time our first apperance would likely to be, and what time you would require us to arrive on the night, so that I can let the girls know as a couple of them work Saturday daytime. I should think we would probably get partly ready in Bristol before heading over, because it takes us quite some time to get all dressed up! Though that may depend on when the event begins, and what time we are due to be appearing & when you would like us to arrive!! Thanks!

RE Drink, I'm glad we feel the same, sorry it had to be said, but I defend all my crew(s ) decisions to the hilt, so if impared by drink I'm on a loser...Although many of the guests will eb off we ( the crew ) can party as long as we like and then we can get drunk if so desired.
As there is camping for guests they will start to arrive at the manor for 5 pm, the party will kick off at 8 pm, I want to make a big thing of your entrance, so would be gratefull if you would not reveal too much of your outfits on arrival for obvious reasons. The crew marquee will have a few chairs and I will drape off an area for you to change in , that's about the best I can do I'm affraid hope its ok. T

Doh, hit the wrong key...the crew marquee isn't massive, so the amount I will be able to screen off for you will be about the size of a garden gazeebo or a tad smaller.

Re boyfriends, here I have a problem, and please do not take this the wrong way or think it's an insult to your boyfriends. When I've booked female DJ's before the boyfreind comes along, not knowing anyone, feeling slightly nervous they head to the free crew bar and have one just to calm the nerves, invariably this lleads to more and then we have an issue. But we can speak on the phone about this.

I can completly vouch for your safety and security. Denny will no doubt assure you of that. All my crew will look out for you I will have a female lighitng engineer on site as well which may make you feel a llitle more comfortable.

First appearance is likely to be about 9pm to be honest when running high profile events I lke all crew to be on site at least by the time the geusts are starting to arrive in earnest so on site for say 7.30 latest.
It means if you get lost we can still come find you without taking crew off of a task.

Do you do costume changes ?

I think 15 mins or so in each hour on the podiums is good, and then later on perhaps hit the dance floor to add colour and vibrancy to the crowd.

As it is mid summer there will be a lot of light bleed into the barn, which we will try to address on Sunday, as it may have an adverse affect on the uv lighting, it would not be unusuall for us to put 30 thousand watts of lighting into a job like this, but heat has to be considered.

The laser alone will heat the barn in a few minites, something we need to look at.

Hope this info is of help. Will contact you by mail then phone.
