Podium dancers wanted...

A friend of mine runs a sound and lighting company, and is organising a fairly spectacular birthday event on behalf of a friend of his. As part of the night's generally club-like atmosphere, he would like to have two to four podium dancers in attendance. Dancers are expected by be 'a bit raunchy', not 'pole dancer sexy', if you see the difference - it's not a strip club.
Dancers would be expected to be performing for around 15 minutes per hour, gig is likely to run around six hours, maybe eight. There's some money available, around 50 quid per dancer, plus free food and bar (note: don't take the piss - the crew's primary job on the night is not 'drinking the bar dry' :) ).
The party is happening on June 18th, in and around a listed building barn on the grounds of a stately mansion house place... sounds nice :) Music will be mostly club anthems, Pete Tong sort of stuff I think. Oh, I'll be there doing fire-poi (outside) and glow-juggling (inside).
I dunno if anyone knows anyone who's likely to be interested in the dancing work, but if so then please put them in touch with me and I can give them more info.

Date: 2005-05-22 11:22 pm (UTC)Seriously, the event is on June 18th, so time is getting slightly pressing now. He did have four girls lined up to do it originally, but they bailed out recently, leaving a gap in the evening's line-up which it would be really nice to refill. If you know people and could put me in touch, that would be cool - cheers.

Date: 2005-05-23 09:34 pm (UTC)Two problems with this, the event is hard to find, and the two girls in question don't speak a word of English.
DennyD I'm on early starts all this week and have a job to rig on at least one night, can I leave it with you to make contact with Sirez and get back to me either vi LJ or my " other " e mail address...?

Date: 2005-05-25 04:34 pm (UTC)For an idea of what they look like, see this page: http://sirenz.mine.nu/sirenz/images/gallery/20050219_tribeoffrog/index.htm
Questions: Are they the right look, do you want them? If so, do you want two, three, or four dancers? Will their travel costs be covered on top of the 50 quid fee each? (they're coming from Bristol area)
And can you email me exact details of where the event is happening, as I'm likely to be driving to it now and I don't appear to have a clue where it's happening :)

Date: 2005-05-25 09:30 pm (UTC)I think it would be unreasonable to expect " these guys " to pay transport out of the bounty offered.
I had xhecked out their website, and was very impressed you know how I like to play with UV ( I've turned to the dark side of lighting ) sorry couldn't resist the Star Wars pun thing...
The Event for general purposes is in Hitchin.
But is s bit of a pig to find, the " client " obviously doesn't want to attract unwanted visitors, so I don't know how we will mark local village junctions etc, but in fairness it is much easier in the Summer evenings...Warning to Denny, there are a few streatches of road, where there isn't enough room for one fast moving shiny new car to pass other not so shiny road users...be warned...and obviously this time of year, banging a feew of my searchlights out will not be visible early on...
Do I take it that the sum of £ 50.00 plus transport is not an insult to " these guys ", It's a pity my flakey freinds said they would do it for that, as the client now has that figure in his head...
Could one of the sirenz give a rough idea of how much travel costs would be ?
Will e mail you the address, and exsact instructions from the A6 travelling North out of Luton towards Bedford. ( It's sorta mid way between chez towerz and luton )

Date: 2005-05-25 10:05 pm (UTC)If it's by car then it's just a matter of providing very accurate instructions I suppose :)
And yeah, I thought you'd approve of the UV reactive stylee :)
You need to let her know how many people you would ideally like, so she can find out how many of her team are actually available that weekend...
I shall be duly cautious of the local tractors and suchlike. I'm not much for overtaking on blind bends since I did my advanced riding training with the police, they get really stroppy about that kind of thing :)

Date: 2005-05-26 10:07 am (UTC)I think we will be coming by car, though we might be in 2 cars, not one, as my car is a teeny car!
Would it be OK for any of the girls to bring partners to the party if they wanted to? Obviously we wouldn't bring just anyone!!
I'd guess that it would cost about £30 per car for petrol, but that is just a rough guess it could be more or less, when I know how far it is I may be able to judge better!
£50 per dancer is fine considering you have never seen us in action, and its your first event, should not be a problem at all :)
We look very very good under UV, oh yes indeedy (I too LOVE UV *grins*)

Date: 2005-05-25 02:48 pm (UTC)Us Sirenz would love to come along, if you don't yet have anyone else booked - if you think we are what you are looking for! We do club-dancing and would be happy to dance on podiums, however because we are in full costume, we are not going to be the kind of podium dancers that perhaps you are expecting! If you have had a look at our site (www.sirenz.co.uk) and seen our costumes & the gallery with photos of what we do, and would like us for your night then I'm sure we would be happy to come and dance!
We would definately be able to get 2 dancers, probably 4 if that is what you prefer. My girls are beautiful and always smiling and energetic so would definately add energy and a club-like feel to the night :)
If you want to chat more, please feel free to contact me at lorraine at sirenz dot co dot uk :)

Date: 2005-05-25 09:39 pm (UTC)I have some very wealthy clients who throw big parties once or twice a year, some of them will be guests at this event, and I'm doing this at less than cost, to try and sell them the club FLAVA..
Hence all the thatricals so that Lord so and so doesn't hink he's turned up to an ilegal rave by accident. The music will kick off as a party set then develope in club anthem type stuff as the night goes on we will be using more technology to give the club Flava.
We are no longer building an 8 Mtr truss spider as our hanging structure as it was 2 foot too big for the barn !!! after much playing around with very expensive aluminium we are now going to build two truss domes / globes inside the barn, one ofver the " cafe " area and one over the dance floor...should look pretty kewl...
Sirenz... We could put in 8 x 4 podiums at 4 ft height with hand rail on three sides and fixed stair sets to the rear ? is this better for you than the 4 x 4 option...?
Really sorry the amounts of money are so small this is a promotional excersise, and also for a mate, so I understand if you decline.
Future jobs will of course be priced at full rate.
I will post some pics of the domes after we build them on Sunday...

Date: 2005-05-26 09:40 am (UTC)It sounds like its going to be a very wonderful event indeed!
There are of course some details I'd appreciate, for example, where abouts is the party being held, what time will you like us to be there (so that I can plan our transport and times we need to get ready/leave). If you would rather not post them on here, please feel free to e-mail me the details!
How many dancers would you like if possible (depending on availability of the girls of course) and if you can give us your instructions as to what you want when, ie is it to be one dancer or two per podium, when you would expect us to be on the podiums and what you would like when we are not on the podiums - would you like us to be out still with the crowds on the dancefloor, or backstage out the way between sets! We are more than happy with whatever you choose for your night :)
I look forward to hearing back from you soon, and seeing some of these pictures!!
Is it alrigth if I friend both yourself and dennyd please! Thank you kindly :)

Date: 2005-05-26 06:09 pm (UTC)Re Event, would prefer you to " hide " in the crew hospitality tent while guests arrive and durring the party set, Feel free to mingle " as a guest " if you have plain clothes earlier on...( The client has told me it's important to him that the crew have fun as well )
But I would like to keep you guys in the shadows earlier on, so we can make the most impact of your entrance, I'm thinking as we change to the club DJ, have a black out, bring up the UV, we can sneak you in to be at the bottom of the podium stairs in the black out, then we can fire some overhaed expolsives and glitter bombs, bring up the music as you appear on the podiums ? It's just a thought...
I think like the other " acts " ( poi , street magicians ) sets every hour for say 15 mins ? or so, will havew more impact each time you come on than just comming on once...As the night goes on please feel free to hit the regular dance floor any time you want, the later it gets the more relaxed the protocol, but I would like to present at least 2 -3 quality hours of professional show time.
Perhaps I should speak to you by phone, at some point re cued music and so on...
I know it goes without saying but DennyD will testify I had a nasty experience with a household name global act, please feeel free to use the free bar, but I do not tolerate for many reasons including safety, drunk crew.
As the night goes on and the guests filter back to their homes or tents, then we are free to party as much as we like..and I will have no problem with crew drinking.
Again sorry for stating the obvious.
All the " crew " are of good soul, and will treat you with respect and friendliness, If you have any problems on the night they will be only to happy to help.
In exchange for my crew laying off the free bar, I expect them to be treated by every one including guest, with the utmost of respect.
I am no strnger to explaining to guests exactly where they faulter when being disrespectfull to " my crew or acts " as I'm sure Denny will testify.
The option for you to stay over is there, unfortunatly at this time, I can only offer sleeping bag room in the crew marquee or bring a tent if that is your thing. ( I may be able to sort a room in the farm cottage if some of the clients guests cancel.
Food will be served throughout the night free to all crew / acts.
I think that's about all for now..

Date: 2005-05-27 03:45 pm (UTC)It sounds like a great group and we really look forward to being a part of this event!
If you could pass on your e-mail address, I'll send over the contact details (with phone number) of Michelle, who is the other co-founder of the Sirenz. It would be best for you to speak directly to her as well as myself, as there is a small possibility that I myself may not be able to make this event, as it falls in the 2 week peroid of our moving house (having just bought our first house!!). The event sounds great though, so I really hope that I'll be able to make it too!
When I e-mail you the details, I'll forward the link to this post so she has access to all the information discussed so far.
The only question I still have would be what time our first apperance would likely to be, and what time you would require us to arrive on the night, so that I can let the girls know as a couple of them work Saturday daytime. I should think we would probably get partly ready in Bristol before heading over, because it takes us quite some time to get all dressed up! Though that may depend on when the event begins, and what time we are due to be appearing & when you would like us to arrive!! Thanks!
Lorraine x

Date: 2005-05-28 08:42 pm (UTC)As there is camping for guests they will start to arrive at the manor for 5 pm, the party will kick off at 8 pm, I want to make a big thing of your entrance, so would be gratefull if you would not reveal too much of your outfits on arrival for obvious reasons. The crew marquee will have a few chairs and I will drape off an area for you to change in , that's about the best I can do I'm affraid hope its ok. T

Date: 2005-05-28 08:54 pm (UTC)Re boyfriends, here I have a problem, and please do not take this the wrong way or think it's an insult to your boyfriends. When I've booked female DJ's before the boyfreind comes along, not knowing anyone, feeling slightly nervous they head to the free crew bar and have one just to calm the nerves, invariably this lleads to more and then we have an issue. But we can speak on the phone about this.
I can completly vouch for your safety and security. Denny will no doubt assure you of that. All my crew will look out for you I will have a female lighitng engineer on site as well which may make you feel a llitle more comfortable.
First appearance is likely to be about 9pm to be honest when running high profile events I lke all crew to be on site at least by the time the geusts are starting to arrive in earnest so on site for say 7.30 latest.
It means if you get lost we can still come find you without taking crew off of a task.
Do you do costume changes ?
I think 15 mins or so in each hour on the podiums is good, and then later on perhaps hit the dance floor to add colour and vibrancy to the crowd.
As it is mid summer there will be a lot of light bleed into the barn, which we will try to address on Sunday, as it may have an adverse affect on the uv lighting, it would not be unusuall for us to put 30 thousand watts of lighting into a job like this, but heat has to be considered.
The laser alone will heat the barn in a few minites, something we need to look at.
Hope this info is of help. Will contact you by mail then phone.

Date: 2005-05-25 04:28 pm (UTC)The party is mostly being held in a listed barn in the grounds of a stately mansion house. There's a crew-only marquee, and there will be a separate screened-off area in the crew marquee for dancers to dress up/down as the mood takes them.
I did look at your website, and I think that you'd be great for the job - as you say, you'll really help to get that club energy/atmosphere into people's heads.
The podiums in question are four foot square by the way (with a railing at waist height), so there's room to bounce around on them :)
I'll confirm some more details (including the location) with the guy who's organising the event, and then throw you an email.
