Standard extras: electric windows/ mirrors/ sunroof, aircon, alloys, cruise control, drivers airbag, headlamp washers, RX7 mats & scuff-plates, PAS, ABS. Plus non-standard: Sony 10-CD changer, remote central locking & alarm, Cat1 immobiliser, chrome front grille, chrome dial rims, front fog-lights, FSH, Tax, MOT, new exhaust, battery & brakes.

Sounds nice. Mmmmm, leather :)

Wankel was the original inceptor of the rotary engine, and the term Wankel is used to describe rotary engines in general, although they are very unlike his early concepts...a bit like saying " Hoover " when the cacuum cleaner is a Panasonic..the general principal of a continuously moving rotor, instead of a stop start piston and crank shaft assembly is still the same

That's it.. and the rotor tips can wear out quickly needing an engine overhaul.. not cheap. Still, it's supposed to be a very nice performing and handling car :)

Nice car, etc, etc.
One thing to remember is that the service life of Wankel engines is less than of standard piston engines (though they also cost less to replace) so be aware that the mileage on this car should be considered with that in mind; beware you aren't buying a car that is about to have an expensive engine replacement.
Other than that, looks like the car for you :)

Thanks for that tip, although I had already been warned about it by someone else. I'm told they're good for about 100k on average, and this one is only up to 60k so far, so I'd probably be selling it on before it explodes. Hopefully :)

The biggest problem with the Wankel design and inherited by Mazda's implementation is that the rotor tips wear out very quickly. There's a company in Reading who specialise in RX7 engine rebuilds and it's really not as expensive as you might think. However it must be factored into the cost of ownership and if you don't have invoices for rotor tip replacement you should assume the engine needs them at about 50-60k and anything beyond that will mean you're starting to limit the life of the engine.

Certainly with the 60k mileage of the example above dennyd's budget should include rotor tip replacement (Click here (http://www.mazdarx7.co.uk/index2.htm) for the Reading company and here (http://www.rx7uknet.dircon.co.uk/links.html) for a full list of companies) soon after purchase. If he's serious it might well be worth hiring one of their engineers to give the car a once over...

WOW, I'm somewhat amazed at the very reasonable price of the rebuilt engines, and they are not charging the earth to fit them either...hrm...two doors is working out for me...( It's only been 24Hrs :) ) but maybe....
