denny: (I need stuff!)

Woke up this morning (*hums blues riff*) to find my PC was dead. Some arguments with the power cable and general rattling resulted in it booting up again, but then it started randomly turning itself off at various stages of the boot process.

I got bored after a few goes of this, and walked to the local PC World and got a new power supply. The legendary incompetence and slow service in those places led to me wandering around bored and getting mugged by the peripherals department too... I ripped open the packaging for the latest Microsoft ergonomic keyboard, just to reassure myself that it still has revolting 'dipped in treacle' soft-touch keys, then threw it back on the shelf - hopefully this will persuade them to have more demo models available in future. Shortly after this I found myself heading back to the till with a Logitech MX1000 Laser mouse in my hands as well as the new power supply. Laser-powered mouse! *geeky joy*

It hasn't finished charging yet, but it certainly feels nice to push around the desk. I'll miss the bright blue illuminated badge on the back of my current Logitech optical though...

Oh, and the power-supply turns out not to have been the problem... I think there's a fault in the motherboards 'CPU fan plugged in and
working' detection which is randomly reporting no fan activity and shutting down the box. I've disabled that in the BIOS and things seem to be stable now. Anyone need a 300W ATX PSU?
