ShinyShinyShinyShiny...
Sep. 15th, 2004 06:17 pmMy new monitors for home were delivered to work today... I'm just waiting for a taxi to take me home now (half a bloody hour for a taxi? I obviously haven't found the competent local taxi company yet...) and then I can hugely enjoy opening up the boxes and playing with the Shiny New Things. Hopefully I should be online from home later this evening, although it might take me a while as I want to try and get X-windows working with both monitors...
Update: it turns out that the Matrox Millenium II which I assumed would be PCI on account of being so ancient, is in fact AGP. Which means there's no room for it on my motherboard, where the sole AGP slot is already happily occupied by my nVidia GeForce 2 MX. So no dual-monitor goodness for me, not until I source a PCI graphics card anyway... anyone got one laying around? (I need it to drive 1280x1024x32)
However, both screens work and they look very nice and shiny sat side by side on the stereo unit in the frontroom. One of them has one pixel that is at least partially-lit at all times, which is a shame but well within the acceptable tolerances for TFT faults. It's not particularly obtrusive, so I'm not all that bothered. The other one is perfect, which is nice.
