saw this while shopping and immediately thought of you, and had to get it... (lacking physical address i even dug out the scanner so i could send it all digital like.)
i want to buy that pictorial essay now.. it looks so coffee table worthy... if only i had a coffee table
i liked user friendly's whole run of badger too...
one (http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20040119) two (http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20040120) three (http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20040121) and the full colour favourite (http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20040125)
I find there is a nice air of truth and naturalness about his stuff. Far too many of the greeting cards, are written by over-worked second rate hacks, who butcher the jokes and force language into places it really doesn't want to go. The purple ronny stuff springs to mind for example. I don't get that from monkton, you don't feel his style is affectation or blatant exploitation attempt, it's just honest. As he says
"These drawings would like to be your FRIENDS. Put them on a desk or a shelf - perhaps beside your bed - and glance at them from time to time. Use them for INSPIRATION. There is no corner of LIFE into which they cannot shine the bright torch of INSIGHT. TRUST these drawings. They will not LET YOU DOWN"
