Hey kid, want to score an LJ code?
Dec. 6th, 2003 03:50 pmSo I just gave an LJ code to someone I've never heard of before, after they left me this comment. I spoke to them briefly on AIM first...
(15:43:28) Denny: hey
(15:43:40) Denny: I'm DennyD from LJ
(15:44:28) iwillBACyourface: hey!
(15:44:31) iwillBACyourface: wow, that was fast
(15:44:35) Denny: :)
(15:44:38) Denny: that's what all teh girls say
(15:44:40) Denny: er, hang on ;)
(15:45:00) iwillBACyourface: haha
(15:45:00) Denny: so... if all your friends have LJs, why can't you get a code from them?
(15:45:07) iwillBACyourface: because they all have free acounts
(15:45:11) Denny: ah
(15:45:15) iwillBACyourface: my friends and i are not afluent people
(15:45:23) Denny: okay, give me the LJ names of two of your friends
(15:45:41) iwillBACyourface: cheetoface
(15:45:45) iwillBACyourface: singalongsongs
(15:46:30) iwillBACyourface: may i ask why?
(15:47:19) Denny: just checking to make sure they were people who actually use LJ for something other than posting quizzes or posting shit about how kurt cobain was their boyfriend in a previous life :)
(15:47:36) Denny: [snip LJ code]
(15:47:43) Denny: there you go :) welcome to LJ
(15:47:50) iwillBACyourface: thank you SOOO much!
(15:47:54) iwillBACyourface: you are so awesome
(15:47:55) Denny: no problem
(15:48:00) Denny: have fun :)
(15:48:05) iwillBACyourface: you wanna be my friend?
(15:48:09) iwillBACyourface: like a livejournal friend?
(15:48:12) Denny: you're welcome to list me
(15:48:15) iwillBACyourface: awesome
(15:48:24) Denny: I have trouble keeping up with everyone on my list, so I might not link you back
(15:48:34) iwillBACyourface: no biggy
(15:48:38) Denny: I mostly just read real-life friends' journals now
(15:48:46) iwillBACyourface: hahah
(15:48:49) iwillBACyourface: oh, i see how it is
(15:48:49) Denny: anyway, I gotta go find some food... catch you around
(15:48:52) iwillBACyourface: yeah
(15:48:53) iwillBACyourface: adios
(15:48:55) iwillBACyourface: thanks again, man
(15:48:59) Denny: you're welcome
It was the phrase 'my friends and i are not afluent people' that made it for them - I figured anyone whose English is up to that standard is going to be a lot better for LJ than most of the journals you can randomly bounce into :)
Whaddya reckon, would you have given someone a code like that? I'm not really sure how exclusively they're supposed to be regarded - I certainly don't mind giving them to friends of friends, or even friends of friends of friends, because there's always a trust-path there, but this is the first time I've had to figure out whether to give one to someone I have no connections to. I do have a lot of the things though, it seems churlish not to at least consider sharing them :)
Update: welcome, then, to
shootselfinface. Hey, I hope that's not a Kurt Cobain thing ;)
