Oh. Fuck.

I just went to the police station to produce my documents (from when the jobsworth policeman stopped me in Norfolk on Boxing Day). The nice policeman behind the desk recognised me from back when I used to run the local MAG group, and we chatted a bit while he checked my driving licence and MoT certificate. Then he reached my insurance certificate.

"Got one that's valid for the time you were stopped?" he asked.
"Er. What?" I wittily responded.
"This ran out in September" he points out, handing it back.

I read it, and he was right. And so I came home to look for the new one. And then I remembered... I was kind of depressed around then... I wasn't opening my post... so I checked the big pile of post that I still haven't really caught up on... and there it was:

"Invitation to renew your insurance policy".

17th September 2002.

I am so very screwed.

Aftershock

A couple of thoughts regarding my last post:

1) Firstly, and most importantly - my very sincere apologies to anyone who has been in my car as a passenger in the last few months. I really didn't intend to be driving without insurance - it's one of those crimes that I personally consider to be morally wrong as well as legally, and I'm kind of stunned to find myself guilty of it. I'm really really sorry.

other stuff, not as important )

Second update:
Anyone who I've arranged to visit and/or give lifts to over the weekend, don't panic - I'll have insurance sorted out before I leave my house for work in the morning.

Hrm, that's about 5 hours away. Really going to bed now. Sleep still not looking too likely though...

This is potentially amusing... I particularly liked:

Just took out a new insurance policy to replace the one I accidentally allowed to lapse. The renewal notice that I didn't respond to in September wanted £336. The policy I just bought cost me £548. That's inflation for you. Price raises in both September and November, plus loss of my 'existing policy' discount  :(

On the bright side this does mean that I can legally drive the car again as of about ten minutes ago, and that means I get to see [livejournal.com profile] duranorak tonight and tomorrow, [livejournal.com profile] firewoman tomorrow evening, and [livejournal.com profile] gothslut on Sunday. Without friends, life would be empty indeed - I'm very much looking forward to seeing each of you  *hugs*

I've added a link on my User Info / Profile page to the calendar I use to sort out my life (well, to try and sort it out). If you want to figure out where I'm likely to be or what I'm doing at some point, check the calendar - if it doesn't know, I probably don't either.
