Today is too hot. Armed with this fact, I decided to surf a few shop websites and find myself a Big Electric Fan of much goodness.

At homebase.co.uk, I ran into an unexpected problem... a search for 'fan' resulted in the following javascript error dialog:
"Search term must contain 4 or more characters. Please search again."

...but I want a fan. And 'fan' only has three bloody letters. Who makes up these halfwit restrictions on functionality?

Anyway, not to be deterred, I decided to try and find them by going through the departments. Clicking on 'The Home Shop' got me, after a long pause, the following error page:
Webadapter was unable to process the request.

Please note that something went wrong!

At this point I give up  :)

Try Argos, their website is much better than Hombase's!

And Argos are a damn sight cheaper too :)

Funnily enough that was the first place I went. Five minutes later, when I still couldn't find any fans, I gave up and tried Homebase.

The B&Q site, diy.com, has a much better interface, which enabled me to very quickly find out that they've sold out of all their fans :)

Anyways, it's hot, but I wouldn't say TOO hot. Too hot, too cold, the english love complaining about the weather :)
I'd much rather this that it pissing down with rain...

Today is too hot for a person who is basically immobile and therefore has to sit on his bed all day playing on his laptop... i.e. me.

If I could go out and play with my poi or ride my motorbike, I'd be a touch happier about the weather :)

You still got a cast? Bet that's hot too *sympathy*. I know how you feel mate, I'd love to be outside too, but am currently stuck in an office which is about 5C more than outside :(

"desk fan"
They don't work in 36°C, you just get a warm wind instead of warm stillness. Try keeping your hair wet all day instead :) I was standing right next to the 100° oven for a lot of the day and was nice and cool.

I was thinking a warm breeze would be at least slightly cooling, given that I'm sitting here sweating. Wafting a book at myself seems to cool me down slightly, and I figured a fan would work on the same basis.

Mind you, B&Q do air-conditioning units for ~£200, which is tempting. Although they're all out of stock too...

We got ours from John Lewis. Fan was eighteen quid, urgent delivery was seven quid - and when the delivery was later than the one day promised, we got the seven quid back!
