Hey look, it's not a quiz!
Apr. 27th, 2003 08:21 pmActual real content... in no particular order:
I'm supposed to be in court on Tuesday. More precisely, some paperwork I was supposed to complete and send back sometime last week or before was due in court on Tuesday, but I think the default state of events is that if I don't send the paperwork in then I'm expected in court. I'm currently wondering if my mitigating circumstances claim of "I was (and to some extent still am) suffering from depression at the time I forgot to renew my motor insurance" will be more or less credible given that I've forgotten to get supporting evidence together and send it to the court. I suspect I'm in the shit. Currently trying to figure out what to do about this, if anything.
I spent this weekend in London with
duranorak. More accurately, I spent the weekend laid up in her bed with a pounding headache, hot and cold flushes, and muscle and joint aches that ranged from 'dull ache' to 'stabbing pain' all the way from my hips down to my feet. Most unpleasant, and hardly the condition you'd like to be in when you're spending the weekend with your girlfriend. *sulk*
I did scrape myself out of bed briefly on Saturday evening and we ventured forth to the God Is From Mars, You Are A Pirate party. Where I was a pirate. And
duranorak was an accessory to my outfit, i.e. a wench :) She looked absolutely stunning in her shiny new corset, and I probably looked sweaty, ill, and generally unappealing. I think
wechsler greeted me with "So how long have you been dead for?" when he turned up...
By 10pm I was having a hard time staying upright even when I was sat down on a sofa, so we headed back to the safety of bed... which was great until I woke up at 3am or thereabouts and couldn't get back to sleep due to being absolutely freezing even with two duvets, plus the aforementioned stabbing aches. Bad body, no biscuit.
Update: Should have mentioned, I am more or less better now. No more temperature imbalances, and the headache has backed off to a dull throb. The remaining muscle aches can probably be attributed to Friday night's dancing :)
Heading home on the train today, I was stuck on a carriage with three teenage girls with Liverpool accents and shrill voices, all mini-skirts and eye make-up, who spoke loudly and opinionately on any number of subjects all the way to Hemel Hempstead... whereupon one of them phoned home and very quietly and politely said "We'll be home soon mummy... Yes, can you pick us up? Thankyou, love you, see you soon." and then tried not to make eye contact with anyone else in the carriage until they got off two stations later. Awwww...
Finally, spotted on a mailing list I'm on: US Judge rules P2P software is legal.

Re:
Date: 2003-04-27 02:01 pm (UTC)I wasn't in a good meeting-people mood last night either.
I'm sure we'll meet again at some point :)

Date: 2003-04-27 02:20 pm (UTC)Oh, and slap me too for not reminding you.

Date: 2003-04-27 02:58 pm (UTC)Em mentioned that you weren't feeling well, but I hadn't realised it was as bad as that.
Will we be seeing you at the Calling on Tuesday evening? Come and celebrate court going well/drown your sorrows in a sea of pretty people...
(I miss you)

Date: 2003-04-27 03:35 pm (UTC)It's possible that I suffer from the alleged male trait of claiming a near death experience every time I catch a cold or fever... it probably wasn't as bad as I'd like to think it was. Although being freezing cold under two duvets seemed mildly impressive at the time. Actually that's not strictly true... it just seemed bloody cold at the time. Now it strikes me as possibly impressive.
Will we be seeing you at the Calling on Tuesday evening?
Almost certainly not.
Come and celebrate court going well/drown your sorrows in a sea of pretty people...
I don't really want to go to court. I'm currently <honesty>putting off</honesty> trying to figure out if there's any way I can still submit a reasonable batch of paperwork instead of making a personal appearance. I'm told fines tend to be significantly smaller if you don't use up court time, forcing (police) witnesses to appear, judges to get out of bed, wear and tear on wigs, etc etc. How this balances against not having all the evidence I was planning (hah!) to get, I'm not sure... but as I'm going for damage limitation rather than a perfect solution, I think paperwork is still my best bet. Probably. <honesty>I have absolutely no idea and I'm currently panicking quite a lot.</honesty>
I think I might find myself riding/driving to Norfolk tomorrow evening to hand deliver the paperwork, so it's there when the courts open Tuesday morning. I'm not sure if it's possible to submit it on the day of the hearing though, and I think I'm currently not looking at the summons because I'm worried that it won't be. I can't really see work being happy about me taking time off to sort this out, either tomorrow or Tuesday, given that they've had no forewarning, and it was only a couple of weeks ago that I screwed them around post-Whitby... so whatever I do is constrained by needing to be at work every day this week.
Bleh.
Anyway, if I do send/deliver paperwork in my place, it's likely to be quite a few weeks before I find out what the decision was. So no cause for celebrations or drownings for a while.
(I miss you)
...
All the better to procrastinate with, my dear.

*thwacks you gently* Have a look at it you silly thing. Surely knowing what you need to do is better than not. What evidence is it that you need? Is there the opportunity for you to get hold of it during the day tomorrow so you can take it over in the evening?
Is there anything I can usefully do to help? (I've got my Computing Project sufficently done that I could take tomorrow off working and come to yours in the morning and hop on a train to wherever it is stuff needs to be)
/me feels slightly guilty for forgetting about this and not nagging you.
And come to the Calling anyway.

Date: 2003-04-27 03:57 pm (UTC)That depends on what I find out really... *head firmly in sand*
Is there anything I can usefully do to help?
I suspect you have enough to be getting on with just now. Which reminds me, when do your exams run? Can't remember why I wanted to know earlier, but I'm sure it'll come in handy at some point.
I've got my Computing Project sufficently done [...]
*unconvinced* Doesn't that give you a splendid opportunity to do an extra piece, to pick up spare credits or something along those lines? :)
And come to the Calling anyway.
I think my ex-gf's daughter may be visiting me Tuesday evening. At least, she says she wants to see me this week, and that's looking like the most likely day for me to be able to make time for her.

*reads*
I can't see anything that says I have to submit this stuff by any particular point. My case is due to be heard at 2:15 which I believe is the afternoon session, so if it got there at some point in the morning it might be okay, I guess. Emphasis on the 'guess'. Depends how far ahead these guys read their notes.
2nd to the 6th of June
Blimey, that's short. Is that densely packed, or are there not many of them?
I've got plenty of time to finish the two I've already started.
Were you originally hoping to do 3, or have I misremembered that bit? If so, presumably 2 is enough to get by...?
Does that mean that [she] is feeling less antagonistic towards you, or does she just not know about it?
I didn't think to ask the kid if she's okayed this with at least her Dad, and preferably her Mum too. I shall have to remember to make sure she's done so before she comes around here, otherwise it could all get quite horrendously bad at a later date.
Perhaps we could get together sometime after Wednesday, when my project has been handed it and I'm not under quite so much work pressure...
That sounds more sensible, yes.

Date: 2003-04-27 05:19 pm (UTC)I shall keep my fingers crossed.

Four exams, three hours each, on the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th.
Were you originally hoping to do 3, or have I misremembered that bit? If so, presumably 2 is enough to get by...?
Well /originally/ I was hoping to do 4 or 5, but that fell by the wayside a long while ago. When I started working again after Whitby I expected to get two done. I might just manage a third if my brain is working particularly well for the next couple of days.
[she]
Ack. Should I have not used her name in a public post? I can't go back and edit it, so I've deleted the comment...

Possibly wise, although if she hasn't done so it's hardly your fault. That said, given how well disposed to rationality some people are, it may be best to err on the side of caution...
That sounds more sensible, yes.
Cool. I'll mail you after the work is handed in.

Should I have not used her name in a public post?
I'd rather avoid it. She specifically asked me to remove all references to her from my ukfetish.info weblog. Quite loudly.
I can't go back and edit it, so I've deleted the comment...
I'd screened it anyway, but thankyou.

My thoughts precisely.
I'll mail you after the work is handed in.
*smile* I'll look forward to it.
