URGENT SPITZ UPDATE:

There is NO Spitz today, as the entire area around Spitalfields Market is shut for building works, so we have nowhere to play. It's going to continue to be shut for a 3 month period, while works continue.

This sucks. That's official.

Kevin and I will be there tonight to let people know what's happening and redirect folks to the pub, but if anyone reads this, PLEASE tell anyone you know who's coming not to. Or to head to the Poets if they're mad set on turning up anyway.

If anybody knows of an alternative local venue we could use, please get in touch with either me or Kev. I'm on here more often, so PMing me would be a good plan. We'll work on setting something up until the market opens up again, hopefully fairly soon.

Apologies in advance to anyone that shows up, we didn't know about this till the last minute.

Last thing: This is ONLY TEMPORARY. After the works finished, we'll be right back in there and up to our old tricks. In the meantime, please be patient, and with a bit of luck we'll have something up and running in no time.

Thanks to everyone who supports Spitz, you all rock. Watch this space....

Nearly didn't go to Spitz last night - the last few weeks I've been apathetic and not got anything out of it, this week nobody else was going, and [livejournal.com profile] libellum was just back from holiday and wanted to spend the evening snuggling in front of films. And yet... I had a powerful urge to go to Spitz - I just had this feeling that I would really benefit from it this week. I'm a great believer in following hunches and feelings at such times.

So, I compromised with [livejournal.com profile] libellum - I decided to go Spitz for the first hour and a half, then came home again to meet her for food, snuggling, and DVD watching.

My feeling was indeed correct. I don't know if it was because I'd caught up on my sleep over the weekend and was feeling relatively perky, or if it was the fact that I had none of my usual friends to chat with (although it's easy enough to find new people to chat to at Spitz!), or possibly whether it was because I took my staff this time - staff is my newest toy, so it's the one where I can still make fast progress sometimes, and also it's very 'full body' - hard to spin staff without feeling fully involved :) Anyway, I ended up learning not one but two new tricks! Okay, one and a half. Maybe one and a third... but it's a cool third! :-p

I can now do a really nice weird three-ball juggling thing - very different from my usual style, and I'm not sure yet how it's going to integrate, but I think it'll be a nice change of pace once I figure out how to work it in with everything else - should look nice with the glowballs. I also learned the first part of a contact staff trick, rolling the staff onto my arm with my hand on my shoulder, then straightening the arm and managing somehow to end up with the staff spinning around the back of the wrist. Goes into back of wrist spin on the other side, at which point I give up - the continuation of the trick is to pull that arm in so that hand goes onto the shoulder, somehow keeping the staff spinning from wrist to arm as you do it. More work required there :)

But I won't have to run far, because they'll be at the end of my road.

This is both a reminder, and an announcement, and another reminder, plus not one, not two, but three, count them THREE invitations, to come and play with circus toys in the next few weeks.

Firstly, a reminder: Spitz is every Tuesday night, 7-10pm, and it's cool. If you do any circus skills stuff you should come along. I promise I will be there every week for the next 3 at a minimum, and probably most weeks until the end of Summer now. Come and play! :)

Secondly, another reminder (hey, nobody said I had to do them in order). On Sunday 1st April there is a circus skills event happening on the Arnold Circus bandstand at the end of my road, called Circus on the Circus. The roads will be closed off, and the very good circus training school Circus Space will be teaming up with the local bandstand community group to put on what sounds like a fairly big event with people performing and teaching all kinds of stuff. The event runs from 2pm to 9pm, and I'm tempted to hang around afterwards and see how much trouble I get in for spinning fire once it gets dark. Come and play!! :)

Thirdly, there is a 'Have a Go' day, a kind of warm-up event for the Circus on the Circus thing, on Saturday 24th March, which will just be on the bandstand but without the roads closed off etc. There will be some people from Circus Space and a load of kids from the local school, doing juggling, globe-walking, diablo etc, and it would be nice to go along and just mess around for a bit if the weather is good. Come and play!!! :)

Google map for Arnold Circus bandstand - Old Street is the closest tube, ~10 minutes walk to the west. Liverpool Street station is ~15 minutes walk south of the bandstand.

Oh yes, almost forgot, my kid brother is definitely coming down to the April 1st event, which is cool. He'll be heading into town on the Saturday and leaving on the Monday. It's nice to be able to do the 'big brother in the big city' thing and invite him to come stay for a fun event that he'll enjoy, the kind of thing that just wouldn't happen in his sleepy Norfolk village.
