I'm glad you've said this - if it happens I now know who to kill.

I remember the days before the internet when jokes got stale after about the first seven months. How nice that in these post-lolcat days things can remain funny forever and ever and ever.

I thought this kind of organised "let's get it to number 1" stuff had been tried in the past and the chart folk had rejected it as being a bit of a cheat. Happened a couple of years ago I think.

*Shrugs* I think purposely releasing an X Factor winners single every year just before Christmas is cheating too.

Yeah, I'm not really sure how a grass-roots campaign is less morally worthy than a commercial media whitewash.

If they find that such an effort is being run by the artist, their record label, or anyone acting on their behalf, then they'll do something. Otherwise they don't care - John Otway's fan club boosted him into the top ten entirely openly (as a birthday present) and the industry wasn't at all bothered.

On facebook they're trying to get Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah up there. I'm more in favour of that, but anything that beats X-craptacular is good in my book. xx

I'd rather they'd tried to get Leonard Cohen's version in the charts, but as you say, anything is better than the current favourite. Hell, for 80p or less a track, most people could afford to try two or three possibilities.
