Just watching Dark City, and [livejournal.com profile] roodypoo69 pointed out that the female lead is the girl from Labyrinth. Interesting to see what people crop up in after well-known childhood roles.

She was also in Requiem for a Dream, which people keep telling me I should see. They also keep saying "it's really downbeat", which doesn't really encourage me - I like my film entertainment to be more pleasant than real life, generally.

"really downbeat" is probably one of the more encouraging descriptions I've heard about that film. I still intend to see it at some point as it is meant to be very good, but I tend to hear "really fucking depressing" more often about it.

Yeah. Along with "They showed it once in Slimelight and everyone wanted to kill themselves afterwards".

YMMV as to whether that's a good thing or not ;)

Ms Connelly thankfully has turned up many things over the years. Including Hulk, which nearly everyone seems to hate but I happen to love :-)

OK. Do not go see Requiem For A Dream. You'll hate it.

I think it's great, but I'm sure I wouldn't like a lot of your favourite films. That's OK. I can live with that.

Not to mention Dark Water, The Rocketeer, Blood Diamond and many many more. She's certainly not disappeared. She's also married to Paul Betthany; he of The Da Vinci Code and A Knights Tale fame. The lucky bastard.

It's not exactly a feel good movie, but it's almost worth it for the double ended dildo scene. Shame you have to watch most of the film first. Jennifer Connolly does like to strip off in films, which suits me, cos she's incredibly hot.

'downbeat' is a bit of an understatement. I saw RfaD at the cinema when it came out, and it's a seriously harrowing film - I walked out feeling like I'd been in a train wreck!

It's also brilliant, and I think people should see it, but if you're feeling even slightly blue it's definitely not a good idea.

Thanks to G, it had been bugging me for the longest time where I'd seen her before!

Nice line in sultry singing, too.

Requiem for a Dream:

I've been avoiding that film for a while now. Loads of people try and get me to watch it, and then tell me lots of things that put me off...

"Requiem for a dream" is in my list of best films ever made. One of the few films I actually own on DVD.

It's definitely not a feel-good movie (so if that's your idea of a good movie don't watch it), but seeing that it's dealing with all kinds of addiction you would not expect it to be. First time I saw it was on late-night TV (back in Germany) and I remember sitting on my sofa in a mixture of shock and awe, unable to move, when the credits started rolling. Took me quite a bit to recover from the experience, but I think evoking strong feelings is what distinguishes a good movie from an excellent one - even if it means knocking you off your feet in this case.

Another really good film on the lines of Requiem is "Last Exit to Brooklyn".

Both films are based on excellent books.

I believe she won an Oscar for her role in A Beautiful Mind

It's worth noting also that RfaD is a very short film - less than an hour and a half. But feels an awful lot longer, which is interesting as one of the themes it deals with is how various drugs distort temporal awareness.
