The problem with an army of net-nerds is that some of them are spectacular fuckwits.

Still, I did giggle when the list of numbers reached the email count. Maturity is over-rated, eh?

The people that made the handful of bomb-threats etc though, really made it difficult for everyone else involved to hold the moral high ground, which is a shame... the protests in London have been excellent examples of how to do these things right and still have fun.

Not sure how true any of it is, but this has also come out today -

From what I've seen I can't agree that the protests in London have been excellent examples of how to do these things right. I just can't see the benefit of shouting internet memes which have nothing to do with a religion/cult at them. I'm all for the power of confusion, I just can't see how informing the Scientologists that longcat is, indeed, long has any point whatsoever.

The point of the protests isn't really to communicate with CoS - it's to raise public awareness. I think they're doing fairly well at catching attention, how well they're doing at utilising it will depend on how many people are giving out leaflets or explaining what's going on to passers-by.

Or how many people google for 'weird fuckers yelling about long cats outside scientology offices last weekend', I guess :)

Possibly.

It's entirely possible I'm in an intellectually privileged position - I thought the only people who didn't think the CoS was utterly hatstand were the people actually in the Cos ;)

The people who join the CoS each year must be in the set ( thinks CoS not mad && not in CoS ). Unless they join despite thinking the CoS are mad, which would seem odd. Odder.

All it'll do is provoke the inter-nerds to step their game up a bit more I reckon. Which is a bystander is always fun to watch.

Slightly strange (but not very) :

I've just spent an hour reading the wiki page for scientolgy.
Well, I started on that page, then I went back to follow interesting links.
The effort was abandoned as lost when I reached here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_prison_films

Threats of violence, bomb threats, death threats. Are these true? If so, congratulations Anonymous, you've just made me feel sorry for the CoS and like you're the bastards who need to be taken down. I expect, and fervently hope, that you wind up in jail.

The Church certainly wouldn't consider it beneath them to stage these things to smear their critics reputation. Look up eg

We we discussing this on IRC earlier and as I said then, unfortunately for every large group of people, there are always going to be some wankers making the group look like the bad ones.

All of the Anonymous people I know definitely NOT for harming anyone.

No matter what side of the argument you are on, you always find people on your side that you wish were on the other.

Ok, I gotta ask at risk of being the only dumb person on this thread.
What is it exactly that COS have done / are doing that is P'ing people off so mch as to feel the need to demonstrate in London ?
All I know about COS is that I've seen a few weird and whacked ot interviews with some of their members on the Tv.

I generally have a big beef with all religion, bt also try to live by the rules of " each to their own " can someone bullet point the specific " crimes " COS have commited to cause this " uprising ".
Thanks.

I applaud any attempts to raise awareness about the CoS. But Anonymous as a concept is just leaving me irritated. It just strikes me as puerile. And more than a little pretentious... whilst I'm sure the protesters will pat themselves on the back for a job well done they should possibly consider tackling bigger and more potentially dangerous targets.
