I thoroughly recommend not buying anything from these people: http://www.aircondirect.co.uk/

Who are also these people: http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/

Who are both owned by these people: http://www.easycomputers.co.uk/

Their prices are slightly lower than most other places, but their customer service (as I have now found out) amounts to "Hey, that's great, we've got your money - you can fuck off now. What do you mean, 'where is my stuff?', just fuck off okay?". Seriously. I am now going through the 'disputed visa payments' procedure with my bank to try to get my money back, as the company in question seems to have no interest in providing me with either goods or refund. It has of course taken me several pounds worth of calls to their premium rate 'customer service' number to find out these facts.

Hmmm - I'd looked at the laptopsdirect site before, but something turned me off them, so I didn't bookmark them or place an order at the time.

You might want to contact PC Pro (who are quoted on the laptopsdirect site as giving them an award):

ONLINE RETAILERS: "HIGHLY COMMENDED" (http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/143886/pc-pro-award-winners-2007-software-and-services.html?searchString=laptopsdirect)

Reliability & Service Awards: Online Retailer (http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/132461/pc-pro-awards-finalists-2007.html?searchString=laptopsdirect) (along with Amazon among others!)

Related to this: "Revealed: UK's best online retailers" (http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/96858/revealed-uks-best-online-retailers.html?searchString=laptopsdirect)

They may wish to reconsider their latest award in light of this.

Oh, and I hope you get your refund from the CC company without too much hassle. Thank goodness you bought it on a credit card, and for UK credit law...

If you ask for a chargeback from the bank, they have to prove that they delivered the goods to you (ie a signature on a recorded delivery item) or the bank just takes the money straight out of their account.

We're always getting hit by people who have cottoned on to this and i spend hours a week locating signatures to prove that we despatched goods.

If you pay by paypal and then ask for the payment to be retracted by the bank you are even more secure because then the company can't dispute directly with the bank (and paypal always side with the bank).

You might want to add http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/ to that list.

Unfortunately, I paid cash (or possibly with a debit card) for something in their store that broke after a few weeks. They basically told me to piss off when I went into the store and asked for a refund. So I wrote to head office saying "give me a refund within 14 days or I'm taking you to court" and again they told me to piss off. Statutory rights, we've heard of them.

Calling my bluff isn't a good idea. They should have received their notification from the court today. That'll be another £25 they owe me, then.

Damn, they (Morgan) used to seem quite good a few years back (late 90's or 2000 I think).

I used to buy the odd thing from an IT auction site (selling ex-stock/ex-corporate kit), but had this issue on a couple of occasions and was basically told "tough" as it was sold as untested. Plus, the shipping usually cost more than the item. I did get a working laser printer for a tenner though, and after it laying around unused for a couple of years or so, I have just started using it...

I used Morgan too at around that time and had no problems.
