denny: (I need stuff!)

Forgot to post here when I ordered them on Thursday, but I've just taken delivery of my new monitors. I now have three of these.

They're for use at home, but I've unpacked one and stuck it on my machine here at the office for the afternoon just to see what they're like. I can safely say that two things really stand out:

1. They're SHINY. Brushed metal surround, polished black base, chrome highlights. Nice.

2. They're HUGE. I know I should have been expecting that bit, but bloody hell, this thing is ginormous :-D Don't think I'll be using full-screen mode in many applications on these screens.

Display seems nice and sharp out of the box, bit bright by default but that's easily changed. No dead or stuck pixels on this one, hopefully the other two will be the same.

Now I just have to figure out how to fit them all on my desk at home.

You have three of them.

For your desk at home.

Remind you to kick you hard next time I see you.

Not the right leg if you please. The only reason I can afford them is that my settlement cheque just cleared :)

I take it you're going to need more than one graphics card to drive them?

And that you're going to put them all in portrait mode?

Yes - I already have a triple-screen set-up at home (http://dennyd.livejournal.com/tag/triple-head), these should just slot in as straight replacements (they're 1920x1200, which is the maximum a normal graphics card can drive apparently).

No - I don't have a TV, so I specifically wanted widescreen for the centre screen for watching DVDs. I'm not actually sure how useable the set-up will be - if it's too stupidly wide, I might sell a couple of them and replace the two edge screens with 4:3 1600x1200s (I already have one of those as my present centre screen, so I'd just need to buy it a friend).

I was talking with someone at Google and rather than having a couple of wide-screens where he has to turn his head to see the far edges, he's got a pair arranged one on top of the other, with the upper screen angled top-towards him a little.

For myself, I'll stay with my pair of 19"s for a little while because without more desk-top space, anything else just won't fit in!

If they don't fit, it's new desk time :)

Enjoy!
