Wrong kind of slow on the track...

Popped into London to see duranorak briefly today. Well, I saw her briefly. The 'popping into London' bit was rather more drawn out, relying as it did on public transport.

I spent at least 7 hours today either standing around in train stations, or (when I got really lucky) riding on very slow moving trains. I've never quite understood what it is about a few inches of snow that manages to totally decimate a transport system based on vehicles that weigh hundreds of tonnes.

Anyway, finally made it back to Cambridge a couple of hours ago and decided that I'd had enough of travelling for one day. I'll do the drive home in daylight tomorrow, so I can see where the less grippy bits of B-road are...

That is an unspeakably good plan, as all but the most huge roads around here don't seem to have been gritted at all, and you'd probably do better to put some ice skates on and skate back. I mean really. It's quite a few inches thick outside my back door (yes the big four-storey Victorian arch one).
How thick does it need to be for skating anyway? I mean the ice in total - not that i'd go skating on a frozen river, which would just be silly. I was thinking more of the frozen road (because it ain't thawing any time soon - it's too icy for the gritting lorry to come!)

I wouldn't skate on any kind of natural ice due to the amount of things which could be formed into it that could damage the blades irreparably... pebbles, usually.

If you do want to go ice skating some time, let me know and we'll arrange an expedition to the rink in MK. I've been meaning to go back for ages now... I used to be quite good at skating, but these days I imagine I'll just fall over at a higher speed than most other people  :)

Wonder if anyone else would be interested... might be worth organising a camgoth or rocksoc playtime at the ice rink?

gothslut has a Saturday lecture so that would require a Saturday night skating session or an attempt at getting me out of bed early enough to drive her back. I'd prefer the former, funnily enough  :)

Hrm. Or we could drive back to Cambridge after skating, actually - it finishes at 11pm so we'd be back in Cambridge by 1am. Pick any day when you don't have early lectures, in that case. gothslut has 9am lectures Monday and Wednesday if I recall correctly.

The best nights to go used to be Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat, but I can check what they are these days as that info is years old.

I have early lectures or supervisions Tue, Wed, Thu, Sat. Bah. But i'm not too bothered about getting to bed late, as long as i get more than a couple of hours' sleep i'm alright.
