Which Princess Bride Character are You?
this quiz was made by mysti

...which is nice, because that's the part I intend to read when we do a Princess Bride read-through this summer.

This idea has been kicking around for a while, originally belonging to [livejournal.com profile] elise (who I'm hoping won't hate me for stealing it as long as I don't steal the majority of her probable cast-list at the same time). Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] elise, she has dibs on the part of Count Rugen. [livejournal.com profile] romauld has claimed Inigo Montoya (sorry but he does have the l33t sword-waving skillz) :)

I'm not sure if any other parts have been specifically requested, so feel free to remind me here if we've already discussed this and you wanted something in particular. Otherwise, let's start by getting a list of interested names (and parts you might like to read), and then we can try to pick a date when we might all be able to gather (at the Catcave seems most likely).

As a memory refresher, the main and main supporting parts are:
Westley (me)
Buttercup
Inigo Montoya (chris)
Vizzini
Fezzik
Prince Humperdinck (bunni)
Count Rugen (elise)
The Grandson
The Grandfather/Narrator
The Albino
Miracle Max
Valerie
Yellin
Assistant Brute
The Clergyman
The Ancient Hag
The mother
The King
The Queen

PRACE BIDS NOW!!

Update: random people who I'd like to see play certain parts, if they happen to know and love the film, and would like to join in the fun:
James or Benjy as Vizzini
Robert B-S or t0m as Fezzic
Ellie or Helen as Buttercup
Marcus as the grandfather
Col as Miracle Max
Bec as Valerie

You already know I'm interested :) I'd enjoy playing:

Buttercup (although there are much better people out there)
Humperdinck (likewise)
Valerie
The screaming hag
The Clergyman

:D

Also could happily do the queen and the mum, but I'd be a bit bored if that was all I was doing.

GIVE ME ALL THE FEMALE PARTS.

Mmm, female parts.

Srsly: the hag and Valerie would keep me happy :)

Mainly, I have beard. But sword-waving is fun. Should we possibly be organising this for outside, so that you and I can actually play around with the satirical sword-fight? I think it'd be a damn shame not to, particularly as if there's space it also gives Elise and I the opportunity to really enjoy the scene where I kill her.

*tries to decide which is more unlikely - fencing with a script in the off-hand, or memorising the lines*

Inigo's lines for that bit are easy!

"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. " (repeat as required!)

"Offer me money."
"Power too, promise me that!"
"Offer me anything I ask for"
"I want my father back, you son of a bitch!"

I meant for the main sword-fight (inigo/westley), which would be myself and [livejournal.com profile] romauld (both trained fencers, hence the appeal of doing it properly). The lines contain a lot of smart-arse in-jokes about fencing masters and so on. I suspect [livejournal.com profile] romauld would find them easier to memorise than me, as he actually owns half of the books they reference :)

That bit's not too bad, it's just a case of remembering the order the references go in. This is complicated for me as I read the book recently, and they're in a different order in that!

Um.

Inigo: "I see you're using Bonetti's Defence against me, hah?"
Westley: "I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain."
Inigo: "You must expect me to counter with Capo Ferro?"
Westley: "I find that Thibault cancels out Capo Ferro, don't you?"

I think I get a bit lost after that. There's a lot of mutual congratulation, Inigo asks Westley who he is and Westley tells him to get used to disappointment. Then we're up onto the rocks and into "I'm not lefthanded / I'm not lefthanded either" bit.

"Unless the enemy has studied Izogripa... which I have" or something like that, I think. Which is about the only line I can (sort of) remember from the whole thing :)

You missed off the King and Queen (though they don't say much!).

I would suggest that Valerie, the Hag and the Queen could all be played by the same person, as they're all old female characters, have minor roles, and they never appear together.

Edited to fix.

I'm concerned that there aren't many female parts... if we don't get much interest then we'll certainly bundle some roles.

*nods* But those female parts are all tiny! Valerie gets a bit to do, but only for one scene. And a fair bit of that is just shouting 'Humperdinck!".

The hag has one speech (not counting "Boooo!"): "Because you 'ad love in your 'ands, and you gave it away! Love saved her, in the fire swamp, and she treated it like garbage. And that's what she is. So bow down to 'er if you like, bow to the queen of filth, the queen of slime, the queen of putressence! Booo! Booo!",

and the Queen, iirc, has only two lines: "Very strange" and "Come along, dear".

(NB all lines from memory, may not be more than 90% accurate).

There was a wonderful Nemi strip a while back which had Nemi and her friends watching The Princess Bride, with Nemi reciting lines along with the film, and her friend comments, "If we put her behind the sofa, it'll be like surround sound!"

I'm like that.

(Incidentally, did you know that Nemi's full name is Nemi Montoya?)

Sounds fun! I definitely want to be part of it.

I'd prefer Humperdinck (sneering upper-class evil arrogance? With my reputation?), but grandson would also be cool with M as grandfather.

Humperdinck is quite hard to cast actually - if you'd like the part that would be great :)

Potentially interested, definitely. :-)

I have a theory that in order to satisfy everyone I know (not to mention everyone they know), there will need to be at least three Princess Bride readthroughs over the coming couple of years. I'm almost certain to organise my own at some point (and probably to give myself Inigo, though I know I shan't be as good as [livejournal.com profile] romauld!), so won't mind at all if I don't get anything big in this one. Otoh, if I'm free I'd still love to be there. Oh, and I'd certainly have no objection to playing Buttercup. I'd probably have to do something quite extremely macho either before or after though, to make up for it. ;-)

Helen has reminded me that you are an Elly, and therefore may have got confused by my wishlisting of Ellie ([livejournal.com profile] glowfairy_199) for the part of Buttercup (for why she's wishlisted, see here (http://www.planetangel.net/images/stories/gallery2/20070406/glenn/DSC02181.JPG)!)

Not that you're not free to volunteer for parts, but that wasn't specifically aimed at you :)

I did indeed get confused. Though you'd just spelled my name wrong. :-)

Having met that Ellie once, she is clearly far better suited than I would be for Buttercup anyway (she'd be far from my first choice of parts in any case, just was showing willing and grateful if you had thought of me!)

Bec as Valerie
You don't mean me, do you? Cos I don't do acting. And I'm not a fan of Princess Bride (yes I am half expecting to be de-friended by all and sundry for the mere suggestion, but there you are).
