See, all these tools assume that the books on your bookshelf are new enough to have ISBNs...

This is a problem I had.

I was planning on buying a cheap barcode scanner to build up an index of all my books, but pulling 20/30 books at random from my shelves I found that far too many of them didn't have barcodes/isbn numbers.

I also found multiple books which had barcodes no online site was capable of recognising!

not so with library thing as it also allows one to search by title and/or author, plus has a section for adding books that aren't already listed in the catalogues it has access to.
