Re: this post (about ID cards in the UK), I received a letter from my MP yesterday:

Dear blah

Thankyou for your correspondence dated Sunday 12th January 2003.

I am glad to see you have responded to the Home Office consultation regarding Entitlement cards. The Home Office will take account of the responses to the consultation before publishing their final proposals. I am not personally opposed to the notion of Entitlement cards, but will wait until the final proposals come forward before taking a view.

Yours sincerely

Dr Phyllis Starkey MP
Milton Keynes South West

So it looks like she's in favour anyway. She's generally known for being a bit of a right wing fascist though, so I'm not sure if that's just her being her, or if there's a party line being adhered to here.

Is she any relation to the famous media extreme right-winger of the same name? (http://www.sbu.ac.uk/stafflag/davidstarkey.html)

Everything apart from the last sentence looks like a standard to me - however people who compose the standard advice can't comment personally so the last part is def. her opinion.

I wouldn't trust that Oxbridge lot anyway, hah! :)

Looks to me like a "nice try, but i'm still going to vote the way Tony tells me to vote when they propose the bill in the House".

I got what can be summarised as "I'll talk to the responsible Minister and get back to you". Thank you, Geoffrey Robinson.
