Well okay, maybe not eternally... if I actually started, maybe I'd have a better chance of finishing at some point :) However, last night I did just that! (start, not finish). And lo, there was much achievement. The sofa and armchair are now in the study (which was the bedroom) rather than taking up space in the bedroom (that was the frontroom). Moving the sofa by myself was entertaining, especially considering how crowded that place is with my Stuff. As well as managing the miraculous feat of sofa re-arrangement, three out of the four bookcases got moved from the study into the bedroom. I realise the study sounds like a better place for bookcases, but I'm seriously starting to think I sleep better if I can see my books as I'm drifting off... for me, they make the difference between 'house' and 'home'. Besides, I like being able to reach the next book in a series easily if I finish the one before it while I'm curled up in bed at night :)

So, still to do:
* Move fourth bookcase from study to bedroom. Move fifth bookcase within bedroom, to sit with the other four. Mmmm, books.
* Buy computer desk for study, re-assemble computer system. Yay, intarmuwebs!
* Buy more clothes storage, assemble in study*, put clothes away.

This morning my muscles ache a fair bit, and I'm ridiculously tired. Not that I'm terminally unfit, oh no. Time to start getting down the gym again I guess.

* yes, okay, it's a bit of an arbitrary designation. Study is easier to say than "the room that's no longer the bedroom", it's not big enough to be a lounge, and the thing I'll spend most time using in that room will be my PC, so 'study' seemed vaguely more accurate/useful than any of the other options.

well I'm pretty good at setting up living spaces, apparently, people were certianly impressed with the speed & ease with which I got this place sorted out so if you need a hand just let me know and I'll come over with my superpowered energy I have at the moment & whizz it into shape with you.

That sounds like an excellent offer, thanks :) I think the next major thing I have to do is buy the desk and a shelving unit for clothes though. I'm going to try Argos this time, Ikea was far too painful an experience.

no worries, I enjoy it... strange I know. If you do decide to go down Ikea again at any point let me know, I'd like to go & look for a couple of bits I still need for this place but it takes 3 buses to get there from here even though it's not very far & is far too much hastle.

Will the unpacking and re-arranging ever end?

I've been at it for about 4 months on and off now!
I am getting totally disillusioned with it, I've got my parents coming over at the weekend in the hope that a fresh approach will help.

I mostly ignore it and work around the piles of stuff quite happily, to be honest. At my last place I lived there for almost two years, and there were several boxes which I never opened. They've been moved to this place undisturbed... by the time I get around to unpacking them it'll practically be archeology :)

I am beginning to think that is what is going to happen here too. Trouble is we keep having more and more people over and we really need the spare room to actually be a spare room and not a room ful of boxes.

Some people don't keep bookshelves in their bedroom?

I am filled with fear.

Ideally I'd have a study with all my books and a comfy chair for reading in it, as well as my computer(s). I'd also have a lounge with comfy chairs and hifi and DVD stuff. Then I'd have a bedroom with a BED... and mirrors :-D

Or maybe a study for the 'puters and a separate library for the books :) Mmmm, books.

Yes - they're so important that they should have a room entirely dedicated to them, is my point :)

Yeah, I saw that after I posted. I agree, except I might be unhappy if I can't just reach over and get them from bed.

Mmmm. Bed.

Yeah... like I said, I do like being able to see them as I drift off. I think it's a bit like having my own bedroom wallpaper that I take to each new place I live - that mishmash of various coloured book spines is always a familiar sight :)
