Middle of last week my main PC at home threw another one of its periodic fits and started rebooting itself every time I logged into X-windows. Obviously this game gets a bit dull after a while, and this time I actually had (just) enough tuits that I finally got around to starting the Linux install on my new PC... well, kinda new - I bought it almost a year ago, but have been too lazy to get Linux on it until now. Anyway, a few long evenings later (the installation of Linux with nVidia graphics on AMD64 architecture is apparently not entirely simple) I have the thing up and running. I still have to get the multiple screens up and running, but I have the main screen working properly now, a 20" TFT at a lovely 1600x1200. *strokes*
Anyway, it's just occurred to me that one of the reasons I'm feeling reluctant to leave the flat this weekend is that I want to be near my freshly installed shiny 'new' PC. Occasionally I amaze myself with the depths of the sad still unplumbed in my geeky little soul :)
That realised, I'm now going to find some odds and ends and then head to sunny Cambridge in my shiny car to see my lovely but currently "floppy" girlfriend - who apparently has some kind of uber-lurgy turning her into a rag-doll. Hopefully I won't catch it, and she'll feel well enough for us to head back into London for TG tomorrow night.
Edit: oh yes, I knew there was something else... if you tend to hang out in a lot of networks on IRC, check out the 'tree' view of channel tabs in X-chat. It's my new favourite thing.

Date: 2006-04-14 08:07 pm (UTC)I've got three 17" CRTs running at 1024x768, 1280x960 and 1024x768. The two 1024s are running off one 5500 nVidia PCI card and the 1280 running on a single nVidia 5700, which serves as my gaming screen.
