denny: (Ouch!)

Just got a phone call from the hospital and arranged a date for the surgery to remove the metalwork from my leg. May 22nd. A fair way off in the future; they were actually phoning to offer me a date in March but I can't give work that little notice, and then I want to go to TG in April and May with [livejournal.com profile] libellum. So, TG's Birthday Ball in May is on the 20th, my last night out for a while I guess. Lots of sleep and snuggles on Sunday 21st, and then under the knife on the 22nd.

I'm a bit scared. :-\

Pain isn't fun, but it's just the next step. Hope it all goes well *hugs* :)

I'm not really worried about the pain - I have quite a philosophical attitude about pain since the accident - it's the loss of mobility (etc) afterwards that's worrying me. I'm still a little messed up emotionally from the first round of enforced hermiting, and although I know intellectually that this time won't last so long, it's hard to convince my emotions to settle down right now.

Ah, I see. Well, perhaps you will be able to prepare yourself a little better this time round, now you know what to expect. It will be shorter lived, and you know how you got out of it last time. Best of luck :)

You're a lot easier to access now of course - I think your place is about 30 minutes from my new flat.

Good luck with it! I'm sure it'll turn out fine. I presume in theory after all the metalwork is out and you've recovered from that, you can look forward to your leg being 'normal' again?

Mm, not really. I still have restricted range of movement in my ankle, so I'll always limp, and my knee is a bit fucked up too, so that'll always hurt. They've guestimated a knee replacement in 10 to 15 years, and obviously it will degrade a fair bit before they'll judge it worth replacing.

However, a lot of my day to day pain right now centres around the locations of a few of the screws just under the knee - so I'm hopeful that there will be a noticeable improvement once I've healed from this surgery, even if I'm not likely to ever be 100%.

It's day surgery this time, as long as everything goes to plan. Feel free to send them to my home though :)

*big squishy hug*

I like the metal bits, shame to see them go but hope it will leave you in less pain.

As for avoiding hermitting, surely you can arrange a trail of gorgeous girls to come & feed you grapes while you're in recovery?

I'll put my name on the list... I don't have a nurses outfit though, sorry, you'll have to pick one of my other creations.

If you made a nurse's outfit it'd probably be all spiky... that could be a bit unsettling :)

You're very welcome to come and feed me grapes, thank you :) I'll speak to you nearer the time and see when you're free to come over - company will be very much appreciated.

I'll kind of miss the screws at the bottom/front of the shin, they were fun to poke and they never hurt, but I expect they'll take everything out while they're doing it.

If you want me to send you comics (I don't know why, but thats what people did for me when I was bed ridden) you just have to tell me your address.

Blimey, Didn't know they would have to remove the mechano competition winner from your leg, thought it was there for the long term.

Good luck matey, wishing you a speedy recovery.

It's kind of optional, but given that a lot of my current aches and pains seem to centre around the big screws, I'm hoping that their removal will make life a bit more comfortable in the long run.

*hugs*

When I had my hardware removed, they told me I would be on crutches for 1-2 months. I was actually walking quite well without them after less than a week. The longest part of the healing process was waiting for the incision to heal.

Hope it goes well.

I go in for surgery on Monday...I totally understand the scared feelings...I'm trying not to let it consume me right before I go in. One upside of surgery is the funkeh drugs they give you to cope with the pain and insomnia afterwards! ;)

I was just wondering yesterday lunchtime when you were due to have that done.

I'll be thinking of you sweetie, try not to worry too much! As far as the reovery period is concerned, you've a good long wedge of time to prepare for it, why not start arranging company to visit in the weeks after so that you know you're not going to be quite so isolated and have things to look forward to while you wait to heal up?
