I mentioned this to a web developer cursing IE's brokenness and he said it was too slow for production use, making your site suck on IE. Though I don't know for myself.

Internet Explorer 7 beta 1 does have alpha transparency fixed, so with a bit of luck we can stop worrying about broken PNGs around 2010. ;o)

No, EVERYBODY should use PNG online, and MS should sort their lives out. JPEG doesn't have transparency (and is lossy compression), GIF has a tightly constrained palette. PNG is the only 'good' image format out there!
