In other news, I got a copy of the follow-up consultant's report on my leg (etc) today. It's pretty grim-reading, mostly the projected problems in the future - all of which seem unfortunately likely given the weird grindy things my knee currently does from time to time. He's asked for some MRI scans to be done before he'll finalise the report, which should be interesting - they'll hopefully show the extent of the ligament damage and possibly show the development of or likelihood of development of (osteo)arthritis.

Although nothing about this is particularly cheerful reading, it does at least mean things can move along another step - my solicitor is now going to set up a meeting between her, myself, and a "fairly senior" barrister, as the extent of my injuries mean that the claim is likely to be quite significant (which no doubt means Direct Line will put up quite a struggle).

All a bit bollocks really isn't it? I hope thhe legal shennanigins come to as swift and favourable conclusion as possible and that you don't end up in the 'worst case scenario' position healthwise.

Are you taking any supplements to help ward off the arthritis problems/reduce the severity if/when it does set in?

No... I suppose I should start looking into that. Meh.

Apparently Glucosamine Sulphate & Chondroitin is very useful.

I did wonder if anyone had thought to advise you of precautionary measures. Since there are some things you can do if you're 'at risk' (keep up your calcium intake etc) you should probably get on top of them sooner rather than later, it can't hurt. Talk to your doctor, eh?

The aftercare following on from my accident and surgery has been shockingly crap. Actually, I'd go so far as to say it's been 100% non-existent. I can usually get answers from someone if I can think of the right questions to ask, but I've been given no unsolicited advice whatsoever, which strikes me as being very wrong considering the severity of the whole thing.

Thanks for the tips. I shall try to figure out who to get a complete list of suitable dietary supplements from... to be honest I'll probably have more luck with a clued-up health store assistant than I will with the NHS.

*grin* I was the manager of a health food store once upon a life ago. ;)

I'm fortunate in that my GP takes health supplements fairly seriously but most don't I've found. You could do a lot worse than getting hold of a copy of The Vitamin Bible, by Earl Mindell as a starting point. Would probably ne worth having a good root around the ARC (http://www.arc.org.uk/about_arth/booklets/6025/6025.htm) site too, I've found it pretty useful. :)
