I admit I had look up some stuff about nickels and dimes before I could answer that one. Stupid US-centric test.

I remember the nickel and dime thing from a story I read years ago - maybe in an Asimov book?

An older boy tries to con a younger boy by offering him a choice between a nickel and a dime. The younger boy takes the nickel every time 'because it's bigger'. The older boy laughs. This goes on every playtime, and the younger boy keeps taking the nickel and getting laughed at. Eventually a teacher pulls him aside and explains that dimes are worth more than nickels, so he should pick the dime. "Yes, I know that" says the kid "but then he'd stop giving me the money!"
