...and there's the official warning at work, for "an extremely serious lack of productivity over the last month".

I couldn't really think of anything much to say to that... I know I'm not working like I usually do right now, so there's not much I can say - except 'sorry', which doesn't really cut it in the work environment.

I hope I manage to get my shit together soon, because getting fired will not make my life any easier.

Any nice members of management who you'd be happy sitting down for a chat with about issues you're having at the moment?

They're all nice, but the company is too small to carry deadweight. They'll be very nice and apologetic when they fire me, I'm sure.

Well no, not really. I've already spoken to them - bear in mind I came to work with a large cutting in my wrist recently, they were bound to ask questions. They know my head is fubar right now, and they were all very sympathetic and nice about it, but they just can't afford to make allowances for it on this kind of scale.

Either I need to get on with it, or they need to hire someone else who can get on with it. Today's conversation was quite clear about that particular message.

Aye, 'tis true. Small companies can have similar problems with things like maternity leave as well. The time delay between paying the money out and getting it back from the Government can really mess up their cash flow.

I really hope you feel better soon.

Where do you work?

If you do get fired, don't freak out too much; there's always another job out there.

I work for a small web development company. It took me quite a while to find this job, and my current financial problems mean that now would be a particularly bad time to find myself out of work again.
